Nice little thread. if you dont mind me asking, why were people protesting g20? its just new banking regulations that may prevent financial collapse. i thought it was a good thing in light of situation regarding the recent recession. not to mention canada would have a lot to gain from these accords.
The protests mostly where to draw attention to poverty in the world.
The protest i was part of was actually a protest against the G20 itself. They decided for some brainy reason it was a good idea to have it located down town toronto. What unfolded from the police presence is that people who lived downtown (like myself) were treated second rate.. there was police brutality without a doubt, i saw it and heard it first hand.
My biggest issue though really was the staggering $1.1 billion dollar cost of hosting a 2 day event downtown in a fairly large city.. and they really spared no expense in police/security. It was just such a waste....... so much money that could have been put to such better use. (Like poverty for example, or even just our city's maintenance)
The tax payer got the brunt of it, regardless of how everyone felt about it too..
They shouldn't be hosting G20 events in downtown / hard to secure locations... They should be in sensible locations where it makes sense to have one.
