Hamilton Thistle Club site

Hey. Does anyone know what's going on with the site of the old Hamilton Thistle Club (Park & Robinson area)?

They built a couple of those $400,000 townhouses along Park,

mls page: http://www.mls.ca/PropertyDetails.as...ertyID=6143996

but the huge lot they tore the Thistle Club for still sits empty and unmaintained (esp the sidewalks, ugh).

Same here. I also heard something about a mid-rise tower, too.
But this lot has sat unmaintained & has had no action for like 3 yrs??
Is the project dead or still happening?

Councill approved 50 or so townhouses like last year. If you know the address you can search it and probably find the report. I know it was all townhouses as the community didn't want any hi rise or mid rise. The plan included a little community centre or something.

^^ Ah ya. I think they planned a little community parkette in the middle of all the townhouses.
The address to the old Thistle Club was 85 Robinson. I'll see what I can find.

Sweet, Thanks!! All I could find were the reports from '04!

I found the draft on page 15 of that PDF file.

Another Hamilton stalled project that tore down a beautiful building for a pile of rubble. Add to that list HMP and if our local property speculators had their choice Lister and the Federal Building would be a pile of rubble too.

I thought there was a by-law that went with a demo permit? If they didn't build within a certain time fines are to be levied. Or is the by-law so weak that it doesn't specify 'all the land has to be used". ie erecting a portabble office building is enough to satisfy the writing in the by-law. St. Joes is going to do the same thing. Demo a building and in its place put a portable.

^^ There isn't even a portable or anything on this site!! They don't even f'ing shovel their sidewalks which I walk along quite often. It's so annoying.

I believe they also tore down a historic house across the street of the Thistle Club. I think it was a military house or something... then they lost the historic cannon that was on-site? Is this is same developers? Or am I mistaken?

The only reason I brought up this thread is b/c I'm pissed that they have done ZERO to this land since tearing down the club. That club could have been wonderfully restored into a rec ctr (which the neighbourhood does not have) or banquet hall or ANYTHING really... but hey, another unmaintained lot in a ultra-dense hood is pretty fun, too

that stupid bylaw stating that a replacement building must be built within 2 years only applies to the 'central district' which is basically King and James from Wellington-Queen-Barton-Hunter. Lame. It should cover most of the central city.

That developer (the guy who stole the cannon from the Boer War) is the guy who we're relying on to build the Hilton hotel. Good luck with the Hilton ever getting built.

The developer for the Hilton Hotel and the old federal building is Darko. The developer for this townhouse condo project is Vince Molinaro.

I would have liked a mid-rise there, but the neighbourhood didn't want another one.
