Calgary construction update for Nov & Dec

I can't promise that this is a comprehensive update as there is too much going on to be complete. Most of these pics have been scattered through various threads on ssp, but I thought I would group the best of them together. They are all from November and December 2007

from Boot Hill, SE

Calgary Health Region head office, Southport Lane SW. This new building is beside their present headquarters which used to be Fluor's Canadian head office.

Peter Lougheed Hospital, NE

Torode office building at 8 Ave & 8 St SW

Foothills Medical Centre and Heritage Medical Research Centre NW

One Executive Place NW

Quarry Park SE, a billion dollar suburban office park, the building u/c is the future Canadian head office for Jacobs Engineering

suburban condo lofts, 17 Ave & 69 St SW

a small "infill" condo where a house burned down on Mission Road at MacLeod Trail SW

Ambrose University College and condos u/c SW

the start of the new $1.2 billion south Calgary hospital, SE

the giant crane for the Bow, SE

Centennial Place, SW

Homberg Harris 1, and crane for Bankers Court, 9 Ave SW

The Lougheed building 1 St & 6 Ave SW. After suffering a major fire (ok it wasn't that major) and the threat of demolition, it has been restored as an office building with main floor retail

next door to the Lougheed building is this old Telus building which has been renovated as the offices of Scotia Mcleod, SW

Art Central is 3 floors of renovated space with artist's galleries and studios in the heart of downtown. Well worth spending some time in. SW

small condo project at 12 Ave & Edmonton Trail NE

City of Calgary Water Centre, SE

Xenex condos, 12 Ave SW

Castello, 12 Ave SW

l to r - former Col. Belcher, Castello condos, Gateway Midtown condos (tower 1 crane), Sheldon Chumir Downtown Health Centre, SW

Hotel Arts The Gallery with Colours and Union Square cranes behind, 1 St SW

Stanley Square, Macleod Trail SE

arriVa 1, 11 Ave SE

front entrance of 'health on 12th", the Sheldon Chumir Downtown Health Centre, 4 St SW

new housing in Auburn Bay, a "Muskoka" themed community in SE

Lebeau condos Mission SW

Destiny condos, Mission SW

Stella and Nova, to be joined by bigger third sister Luna on 12 Ave SW

Genco Place 4 St and 11 Ave SW

Westgate Park - Brava (occupied), Encore (sold out), and Ovation (u/c), Bow Trail SW

CopperCrown at Copperwood, Hemlock Cr SW

Low income housing project, Ogden Road SE

London condos, the first of 4 towers, Horton Road SW

London 2 with London 1 in the background located by the Heritage CTrain station

Sherwood, a new community in the far NW

Alberta Children's Hospital, NW, one year old

Fluor, Canadian head office, Sunpark, Lake Sundance SE

another Fluor building across the street, SE

another Fluor building they share with Colt. Colt's head office is on Southport Road SW

new office building, for Fluor? Sunpark SE

Canvas condos Millrise SW

Highbury condos SW, the first tower of 3 is sold out

new community of Silverado SW

Gateway Southcentre condos, Lake Fraser Drive right by MacLeod Trail SE

Waterfront condos, SW, 3 cranes on site, only 2 are visible in the pic. The first tower sold out in an afternoon.

Stampede Station, the first of 2 office towers, Macleod Trail SE

Nuera, twin 36 storey condo towers with the cranes for Keystone (2 condo towers and one office tower) in the background, 1 St SE

Union Square, the first of twin 28 storey condo towers with Colours condo across the street, 1 St SW

Ramsay Exchange, SE, a billion dollar mixed development on the old Dominion Bridge industrial site

Vetro + Sasso condo towers, SE

new head office for Bantrel Engineering on Glenmore Trail SW, just west of the new Glenmore/Elbow Drive /5 Street (GE5) interchange

just finished Platinum LEED Childhood Development Centre with solar panels, U Of C, NW

Future Stony Trail, NW bypass. On the right at the top of the hill is a new power centre called Beacon Hill with a Costco. Nobody lives anywhere within walking distance of the Costco. There are no new ideas in urban design here, just more SUV- centered rampant consumerism.

5 West twin condo towers, 5 Ave SW

Providence condos Kensington NW

Centron office park, Blackfoot Trail SE

Airstate Centre 11 St SE

SMART Technologies world headquarters, NW

Red Haus condos NW

Chocolate, 1 St SW. I love this building and I'm really happy with this picture!

Merry Christmas!

Hey thanks for having a look. There are only 2 cranes in this pic as I was too close to get all 3. I posted some Waterfront pics in the Calgary construction thread on Thursday and the 3 cranes are visible in some of those shots.

I didn't even know the south hospital was under construction yet! Stupid city changes too damn fast even for those of us who religiously read these forums.

And that "old Telus building" that Scotia McLeod is in now - that might possibly be my favourite old building in Calgary.

Nice overview of Calgary, winter 2007.

I wouldn't say that the Lougheed Building had a MAJOR fire.

But very nice pictures!

Great pics. I can't wait to see how great the city looks once a lot of this construction wraps up and the new buildings, communities, in fills, and trees being to mature and become part of the city.

Ugh - The Alberta Children's Hospital is one of the ugliest buildings in Alberta. The CDC is even a lot better than that building. Just gross.

Personally, I think both are some of the nicest buildings Calgary has built in a long time. Then again, most people in this province prefer a brown stucco shitbox, so what do i know.

I believe ACH won the Calgary Urban Initiative's inaugral architecture award (or whatever its called) that was voted on by the public.

I'm going to admit that the second didn't load for me the first couple times. The first shot of it looks atrocious. The second photo doesn't look so bad.

I love the childrens hospital. And alot of people are forgetting that that specific hospital is suppossed to be a child friendly environment. It's supposed to look non-threatening inthe eyes of a child, which by the way i think it has accomplished quite nicely.
