1st May in Barnaul, Siberia

No, it's not a photothread about the communist holiday (1st May), just a nice day when I walked with my camera.

I like the days in May when the young leafs at the woods and there is not as hot still, like in some summer hot days...

Let's begin from the hollywood-like letters BARNAUL at the city entry, as looking from the new bridge.

City view looking from the bridge

Recently opened Parus Business Centre

a sort of skyline

One of the central streets

Znamenskaya Church and modern view...

In this walking I have found this neglected house

looks interesting to me

It would be great if they would reconstruct it...

One of the old trade streets

Pomestie Shopping Centre

A wooden house at a street's corner in the old town

One of the oldest survived department store in Barnaul, opened in the pre-revolutionary times, called Krasny (Red), just because of bricks colour

In an alley

Ulitka Hotel

Korolenko Street

A 19th century house

The tulips

Here is located City Duma (City Hall)

Anatoliya St.

A nicely restorated building

I like such contrasts

Another quiet street

the old wooden houses district

But city's growing, so some of them is demolshing gradually. It's OK, because there are many of them still in the city centre.

Some residential buildings at Partizanskaya Str.

The Lenin Avenue Boulevard.

A cafe with mexican cuisine

and finally...

Very nice photos, Siberian. I've seen Barnaul before, also from your threads about it, and each time it looks better & better

This is a beautiful waterfront, hope to see some sort of skyline rise there in the coming years!

I gotta start saving money for my long-planned Trans-Siberian trip, from Vladivostok to Moscow.

Unfortunately, Barnaul isn't on Trans-Siberian railroad, it's located 230 km south of it.

I love the colors. I hope they save the wooden homes. The Mexican Restaurant in the middle of Siberia is odd. The Mexicans are taking over the world. ;-)

Thanks.
Sure, this is my city. I was born in Barnaul and still live here. These are the places on the photos in my city where I like to walk. There are many another interesting places in my city for sure, but that wasn't my purpose to show all of them.

Cool, I see there are quite a few nice cars in many of your photographs. How do the average person afford them? I was under the impression the economy wasn't that good, and salaries aren't that high.

Yes, our region (Altai Krai) is less wealthy than the neighbours in the West Siberia. There are not high salaries etc. But anyway. Barnaul is the capital of region and there are much private businesses. So those businessmen may afford those cars.

I myself have no car still (I'm not a businessman ). If I will stay in Barnaul further I would buy a used Japan car like Toyota Corolla, it's possible for me to buy it on credit.

Very nice looking place.

The two things that surprise me are the Mexican restaurant and what appears to be white-painted bases of trees on Lenin Avenue.
I've seen a few rural (usually black) people paint the bases of their trees white like that here, but I didn't know people did that in other countries.
