Vancouver: Busy February day in Downtown/Chinatown

Hey all, here are some random pics I took while walking around this afternoon. The Chinatown ones were taken a few hours after the Chinese New Year parade, hence all the confetti and fireworks littering the street. Enjoy...

good point phillyskyline. Though i am from Vancouver, and therefore the street level activity is not a surprise to me, the photos of Vancouver on this forum are almost always aerials! Great job raggedy, you captured much more of the spirit of the city, as your pictures include not only the diversity of people but a great diversity of buildings, not just the cookie cutter glass yaletown and coal harbour condos that are so often exhibted on this forum.

Thanks for all the comments, greatly appreciated. I suppose you're right that Vancouver street life is a little underrepresented in photo threads. Perhaps us locals just take it for granted. Glad I could show others a different side of Vancouver in that case.

so dirty

Wow..look at the photos of downtown/Chinatown... street is full of rubbish.. there are too many bums in downtown, is just crazy...what's going on here? Vancouver used to be a great city to live in, but not anymore. Cleaning up east downtown is never going to happen.. NEVER..

What great pics of one of my favorite cities. One of the most pedestrian friendly, walkable cities in America. Always lots of street life. I'll be there soon. Can't wait.

there was a huge parade that day - it is normally much cleaner - but in general china town is probably the dirtiest part of the city

you should see the west end after the fireworks - you wanna see trash

The pictures were taken after the Chinese New Year's Parade. I don't think any city on Earth is normally THAT dirty.

Van city is such an amazing place. I think we need to model our chinatown in seattle after vancouver's, it looks more exciting. Has anyone been to Portland's chinatown? The Chinese all left it for the suburbs. I guess Portland will expand the Pearl (probable) or keep it all wierd and ugly.

doesn't seattle have an "international" district instead of a Chian town? I remember the city never wanted a China town and opted for the international thing - probably why there is no ornamentation?

I liked portlands chins town too - they have a cool garden

Vancouver's china town has also been fled though - Richmond is the new china town - young people prefer to go there and call downtown the china town for the old people but in recent years they have been trying to revive it - adding in a new gate and some new housing which will help hopefully - somefunkier stores have been moving in too - a few more are needed to lure more people in i think
