Even as Larry Silverstein (WTC developer) begins work on his twin residential towers uptown, he's planning a new residential a block away from the WTC. Here's a quote from an article in today's NY Sun:

In November, Silverstein Properties acquired an 11-story office building at 99 Church Street from Moody's Investor Services for $150 million. Mr. Silverstein said it was likely the building would be razed to make way for a 58-story residential tower.
Looks like the Woolworth Bldg will be sandwiched in by another residential.

While it wouldn't directly affect the views of the new tower nearing completion at 10 Barclay St,
it would form a closure of sorts for the Woolworth...



Hope its a worthy addition. Either way, its a good sign for Downtown.

I believe 10 Barclay is 56, but they would be in the same range...

10 Barclay was the beginning of the development in this area. There are plenty of buildings in the area that do not fill their envelope. I suspect that most of the new developments will be commercial since the area near City Hall is not attractive to commercial businesses, although Goldman Sachs move near there might change things a bit. Also I suspect Moody’s signing a new large lease at 7 WTC has something to do with them selling their old property to Silverstein, perhaps there were negotiations behind closed doors, where Silverstein agreed in a rent reduction for the rights to purchase their old building. Lastly I hope that Silverstein’s recent architectural awakening continues outside the World Trade Center and he chooses an A-List architect for this site as well.

That may be too much to hope for, but imagine if we got another Calatrava design...

With his lack of success at 80 South Street I doubt it. Although I insist if 80 South Street was proposed for the Upper East Side and it was approved, it would be built already.

It would be really ironic if he somehow brought in Gehry to design it. It would be another Gehry design for the area that we'd never see (along with the cultural center and the Beekman St tower)...

Has Childs done any residential? Here's Silverstein's twin 58-story residential, already under construction on the West Side. Don't remember the architect...

It is, which is why I figure Silverstein would put his tower directly on Church, where it won't sit directly accross from the new 10 Barclay St tower. He may even plan a retail base, extending the WTC shopping district a bit.

yuck. you have transportation blg across the street from the woolworth, 12 barclay diagonally, and now this one directly behind?? just build a 700 footer across broadway in city hall park to cover up pretty much the last view of the woolworth and lets just forget this beauty ever existed

Time to take some pictures of another NYC building that will become history. I bet there aren't to many pictures of this one (except where it is in a shot of the Woolworth like above)

Nothing particularly stands out about it.
