It's too bad Mr. Saarinen passed away before seeing his finished product.
Deere Inc. first envisioned a highrise HQ in downtown Moline but Saarinen himself suggested placing headquarters on a big plot of rolling prairie/woodland in the country just outside of town since Deere is a farming company. He kept the building low and horizontal and used earthy cor-ten steel to represent the midwest prairie. (plus I heard that he thought downtown Moline was pretty damn ugly, but hey the Quad Cities is a gritty, dirty, industrial place)
