Where will You be watching the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse ?

Where is the best spot weather wise to watch the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse ?

Niagara Falls has generally been regarded as the Sunniest place in Ontario.

Last Total Solar Eclipse over North America until 2044 so don't miss it.

The Totality phase is the only time you can safely view it naked eye, the rest of the time you need solar eclipse glasses.

The path hugs the south side of the border. Unless you're in Niagara Falls or Newfoundland it's not a total eclipse. Solar system hates Eastern Canada. F.U.

New Brunswick will be some of the best views of the full eclipse.

Lucky for me, I have a work project in Niagara earlier that week and have managed to move things around so I can be in Niagara Falls that day. Or as close as one can reasonably get given what should be brutal crowding. I'm told hotel prices are... astronomical.

Absolutely. I’ll be just north of Cocagne, New Brunswick. Full totality (unless it’s cloudy, which in April in the Maritimes is not at all unlikely.)

The edge of the path of totality is pretty much at Lute's Mountain on the northern flank of Moncton. Sadly, I have a previous commitment and will not be able to view the eclipse. I did see an eclipse in Charlottetown in 1972, so I have at least had the experience.

I hope you have clear skies.

Keep an eye on the weather. If it is cloudy in Cocagne, it might be clear in western NB. Your could be in Woodstock in three hours if you hoof it.

Quite a bit of SWO is in the path. Almost the entire shore of Lake Erie, and all of Norfolk, Haldimand, most of Brant, Hamilton and even into Burlington, plus the Niagara Peninsula. And then a big slice along the St. Lawrence.

Edit:

Central Canada.

Eastern Canada is getting some great views of it. Hopefully the weather holds for us. I'll be in Freddy to watch it. My office had some great views of it when it happened 10ish years ago, so I'm sure we'll have a good time this time too.

I'm playing it by ear. Early April is just about the least likely time for it to be clear in Newfoundland so I'm not getting my hopes up. If the weather does look good I'll swing out near Clarenville. St. John's is outside the path of totality so I'll need to travel to really enjoy it.

Centreville, NB. My hometown. It's in western New Brunswick and dead center of totality.

Quite simply, from home in southeastern Quebec, right in the exact middle of the path of totality.

The solution is easy: this extremely dry area (part of the Chihuahua Desert) is ALSO right in the path of totality

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bols%C...de_Mapim%C3%AD

Just a bit further away than Niagara Falls (but less crowded too!)

My house will be in the path of the eclipse. So in my backyard, probably.

From my backyard! Kingston is well within the totality band at 3 minutes.

Realistically, though, most of us will miss it anyway. Statistically, April 8th is unlikely to be a sunny day in Eastern Canada.

Even on a totally cloudy day, it will still get dark in the path of totality, for about 3 - 5 minutes...

I'll be in my back yard too, in Port Colborne.

When did you move to Niagara?
I always assumed you were a Toronto resident

It would be nice to drive farther southward or into Niagara to enjoy a longer view, but I think all the routes (main highways and back roads) will be clogged with traffic from the GTA.

And it's a "school day" after all (for the working folk... I think I read that school boards will have PA days on April 8)
You do know there's other routes to get to Niagara than the QEW, if you don't mind country drives

Of course. But I think the traffic will be bad on most routes, QEW especially but 2-lane country roads too, given the power and widespread use of navigation apps. It would hopefully spread out across the region, but Hamilton is a choke-point for anyone driving from Toronto or Mississauga.

Since I live where there will be about 2 mins of totality (if it's not cloudy) and I have ready access to open space just across the street, why would I leave home? I'll be working as well that day, so to leave my place early and return late is not going to be an option.
