Saskatoon | The Wesley | 14 Floors | U/C

The Wesley is a 14-storey project currently under construction on Broadway Avenue in Saskatoon and, as such, I thought that the project deserves its own thread.

According to the WestCliff Developments website:

"The Wesley is located in the heart of Nutana right off of Broadway Avenue in Saskatoon, SK. This 14 story development will feature 124 curated apartments that will capture a modern and timeless feel."

Here are web links describing more facets of the project:

I thought the developer agreement required this development to have a small grocery store on the ground level? Is that still on or did it get nixed?

This is a fantastic addition to the area. I like that they went the extra mile to make sure the pedestal of the building fit right in to its surrounding

I remember sleepy little Broadway back in the early 80's. Starting to grow up into a proper inner city street.

Just need more of this kind of density happening.

It would be hard to imagine with the completion of the Wesley, that there would not be some kind of interest in a small or boutique type grocery store on Broadway. At its completion, there will be 3 new condo/apartment towers on Broadway...you would think that creates enough density, along with the neighborhood, to support a small grocer.

One can always hope....

And if the 26-storey, 260 unit condo tower proposed for Eastlake and 12th Street gets built, the presence of those additional residents in the area would only add credence to your grocery store argument.

Crazy that the podium is so high. Whenever I drive by, I'm surprised by the bulk of it. I think this building's going to have a big impact on Broadway's skyline.

Do you recall where you saw reference to a potential grocery store going into the ground level space?

With two major grocery stores located near 8th and Cumberland (not too far away from Broadway), I do wonder how well a smaller grocery store on Broadway would perform. Maybe it would do well if it was a new, modern store with lots of organics and locally-sourced food? I dunno.

I know of a lot of uni students that are now living in 639 Main, and I assume the Baydo rental tower. These students have chosen that area for a number of reasons...access to Uni, pubs/restaurants, and public transit. Many do not drive...so although there are grocery stores "in the vicinity", I firmly believe a small grocer could definitely succeed on Broadway. Once the Wesley is complete (and the potential for a few more other developments adjacent to Broadway), I think there would be enough density to support that. I live 5 blocks from Broadway and maybe 5 blocks from Cumberland....i would support the Broadway location!
