Penn Medicine plans new medical technology tower

Perkins & Will is named as architect for the glass, aluminum and precast-concrete structure.

The plans suggest that the tower will be built in phases, with the first stage of construction bringing it to eight stories.

The CDR panel, which makes nonbinding design suggestions for the city's biggest development projects, is scheduled to review the proposal on Aug. 2. Penn Health spokeswoman Holly Auer had no immediate information about the plan's cost or other details.

Looks good IMO, not great, but good. The medical tech field is really cool, I hope we create some cool things in this building.

Going to be built in phases. I was wondering if Penn Health was going to construct 2 major buildings at once. Guess not.

But from the photos, it looks like CHOP will be doing phase 2 on the building next door to this. Any rumblings when this will occur?

It doesn't say there are any plans for it. The CDR submission notes that it was included that building built out for reference. So, eventually I suppose but between this and the new Patient Pavillion getting built definitely, I wouldn't expect anything in the next 5 years.

Not too sure about >5 yrs Penn Med needs the space now . Lab and office space are critically in short supply .Plus I think the reason for two phase building plan would facilitate a faster move in date .

Our move-in date is 2018 which doesn't help much. Not looking forward to the serious lack of trains to the UC station. (on top of the other train messes)
