[St Thomas] 1029 Talbot Street - HighLands Tower - 14s (Under Construction)

Still working on the L1 footings and foundation walls and posts. Have started forming the ground floor slab on the north end of this 14s 162 unit apartment building in St. Thomas. Vandel Construction has the general contractor contract for this build.

LFP article from last fall on the start of the project.

Have now got the NE corner of this building ground floor slab poured. Still working on the remainder of the L1 level forming. Progress is rather slow on this build.

Interesting they are going with precast concrete walls and posts and floor slabs for this building. The ground floor is now complete and they have already installed the 2nd floor precast slabs. Still working on the underground parking level with all the walls and posts now poured but not the L1 floor as of yet.

St. Thomas is on a roll. I recall the dark days of the Great Recession, when large factories were closing in St. Thomas, and unemployment was surging.

The have now completed the 4th floor and have landed the 5th floor precast concrete floor slabs. They must have poured the north section of the L1 floor as they are forming now for the ground floor slab on that part of the underground parking garage.

Using precast concrete wall and floor slabs should see this 14s building topped out by the end of the year.

Forming for the ground floor slab is now complete with only the steel rebar left to install along the south side and SW corner. Should see concrete pour soon. Also have now started installing the 6th floor precast concrete walls and posts on the north end of the building. Should be installing some of the 7th floor walls and posts by end of May which is the halfway point of this 14s building. This building should be topped out with mechanical penthouse in Oct.

The 14th floor precast walls are progressing well with over 50% now installed. This is just weeks away from being topped out with the mechanical penthouse structure completed.

14 floors? Does this top existing buildings in St. Thomas?

Edit, yes it does. Answered my own question. https://lfpress.com/news/citys-talle...-building-boom

Grand Central on Talbot was the highest at 12 floors previously. St Thomas is still woefully lacking in high density though, they really need to up that game.

If this first 14s building is quickly filled with tenants the 2nd 14s building will likely start construction soon after. The property is zoned for two towers.
