Casper, Wyoming

I was in Casper for one night over the Memorial Day weekend. I have been through the city many, many times, but have never before taken the opportunity to check out the downtown area.

I was pleasantly surprised by the seemingly vibrant center of the metro area, with a whopping population of 75,500.

These were taken at 8:00am on a Saturday morning, so no one was around.

Take a look:

There are two downtown theaters, both showing first-run movies:

The downtown shopping/entertainment street:

The "massive" First Interstate Bank tower:

The Wells Fargo clam (the sign is the tallest structure downtown):

Railroad station:

Mountain views/street vistas:

City Hall:

Misc:

Interesting. We definitely don't get a lot of Wyoming on here.

That Wells Fargo is straight-up wacky. I kind of like it.

Nice to see some Wyoming on here.

It's not often you see funky architecture like that Wells Fargo branch in a no-frills area like Wyoming.

Never been to Casper so it is nice to see what it is like. I knew a lot of guys that worked up there. It looks a lot nicer than Rocks Springs, WY which might be the worst town I've ever been to.

Love those theaters. And the fact they are showing first-movies in them.

Nice to see this city. Looks quite solid and in good shape. I was wondering if the Wells Fargo building is suppose to be a flower with a big old stamen?

Thanks for the tour.

Indeed, we don't get much of Wyoming at all. I am glad you visited Casper and shared these images with us!

This is where Dick Cheney is from? No wonder he is such as asshole. This place is uninspiring. I would start shit with people too, out of boredom.

Oh gee, I always associated Casper with a friendly ghost. Didn't realize it had this frightening connection.

I seriously doubt you'd want to do that.

That said, Wyoming pretty much sucks. Wyoming, the fucking wind state.

Maybe I'll get some photos next time I'm up in Cheyenne, Laramie, Rawlins, Jackson...

Or maybe Nevada - Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Elko, etc.

I got a great laugh from that too. This is a funny thread. We only need a comment from the famed forumer, Phil McKrackin, to round things out!

I guess it's seemingly vibrant considering what we come to expect of many American downtowns (i.e. wholesale abandonment/vacancy). That said, it certainly has some great bones to work with.

BTW, the First Interstate Bank seems clearly taller than the Wells Fargo spire.
