Winnipeg: Skyline shots on an overcast day

Greetings.

Today's Victoria Day here in Canada, and thus I have the day off. It was drizzling rain and overall quite shitty out so I thought to myself "Golly, this would be the ideal day to walk alone for a few kilometers with an expensive camera through dodgy areas to take pictures of my city!" And that, my friends, is exactly what I did.

Winnipeg is about as flat as prehistoric cola dried on a bowling lane, so I had to take these pictures from a couple different bridges to the north of the downtown core. My usual disclaimer about me being a shoddy photographer applies, but so does my claim of superhuman strength.

Without further ado, I give you BELARUS! Sorry, I mean WINNIPEG!

It's nice to see some green again:

Our ever - expanding Health Sciences Centre:

A zoom shot of different styles taken from perhaps 1.5 km away:

A bit of a jumble:

Don't worry about me. I steeped myself in sunscreen beforehand:

Canadian Industry will save us from the socialist scum:

Zoom shot of a nifty ol' church a zillion miles away:

And another for our viewers joining us at home:

In the centre we see the spire for the Canadian Museum of Human Rights (under construction), and to the right the towers of Portage and Main, an intersection famous for some unapparent reason:

The western portion of the financial core, with the new LEED certified Manitoba Hydro building in the foreground:

To the left is that museum spire again. Old Spirey, we like to call it:

If you're getting bored with these shots I'll have you know I walked for half an hour before it clouded over and started to drizzle and I was determined not to waste the trip, so I'll be damned if I don't post a bunch and make y'all wade through them:

In the background is the Arlington Bridge, where I took about half the photos in this set:

We could use some more infill. Just sayin':

Either an artistic shot or a shitty one:

New hotel going up at the Health Science Centre, 'cause nothin' says "tourist hub" like lupus:

View from your ex girlfriend's house:

Reprezentin' Peg City:

This is the centre portion of downtown. You can't see it because it's only a few stories high, but our new NHL arena is to the right of the prominent brown highrise in the middle of the frame. This area, encompassing several blocks, is to be part of a new entertainment district in the core utilizing the arena as it's anchor. This view will change in the next couple years, as an 18 story hotel is currently under construction as well:

I dedicate this photo to Queen Victoria, a repressive, irrational, and dreadfully hideous dead chick who's legacy somehow gets me a paid day off, even if it is rainy out:

I was shooting through this fence the whole time; it was a bitch getting the wire out of the frame:

What do you do when life hands you lemurs?

If I've taught you anything today, I hope it's that birds like trains:

Steel:

Bigger is better:

Thank you ever so much for joining me on a magical tour of the city National Geographic once called "tolerable."
