Amsterdam- Summer of 2009

During June of last year my girlfriend and I took a 2 week trip through Europe, visiting (in order) Kiev, Helsinki, St. Petersburg and Amsterdam. It was a fantastic vacation that I'll remember for a long time. Hopefully these pictures will give you a little glimpse of the character of each city.

Amsterdam is the last city we visited and for some reason, it has taken me forever to upload the pictures to photobucket. Anyway, the deed has been done and I am finally able to share them with the good people of SSP. By the time we got to Amsterdam, I was pretty beat and wanted to relax more so then explore (this is my second time visiting), so while my girlfriend ran around exploring the sites, I mostly hung out on our rented houseboat and meandered around the Jordaan neighborhood where the boat was located. Enjoy the pics, the commentary is limited due to it being a while since the visit and my memory being somewhat hazy

Lame tourists

Goes without saying that Amsterdam is a bike commuter's wet dream

Yes, I have a weakness for tiny cars

Tiny cars!!

The rest

Huh?

Train station to take us home

Just an awesome city, what else can you say, really?

My favorite photo:

I always like playing "spot the American fast-food franchise." And better yet, it's Michigan-founded-and-based Dominos.

BTW, anyone know the history of this square?

I miss living there. Oh well. I'll just plan my retirement there.

Funny you should mention that one. There was a scooter deliver bomber dive bombing towards the place every 15 minutes. He would jump across those tram barriers like it was no big deal. We called that dude kamikaze scooter.

One of the world's finest cities. Wish I had stayed on a houseboat when I was there!
