Housing Olympic visitors and helping homeless

let's hope Vancouver gets known for this - great idea

Housing Olympic visitors and helping homeless

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A new non-profit organization aims at helping the homeless while also finding accommodations for visitors in Vancouver for the 2010 Games. But Homeforthegames.com is not for people wanting to gouge international visitors, as half the proceeds will go to local homeless charities.

Charles Montgomery came up with idea after chatting over dinner with his housemates in East Vancouver. "We happened to have a couple of spare bedrooms in the house, that we thought...hey...we can invite people to stay in these rooms--people from out of town who might not be able to afford these $400 a night rooms. They can stay with us, and we can share the Olympic experience together."

Montgomery says they were also concerned about the local homeless problem, so they decided that half the proceeds would go to local charities. They've formed a partnership with Covenant House and the Street to Home Foundation.
