Peach Festival This Weekend

I had better take a benadryl before I go to this. I love peaches but I am allergic to them. So it isn't as bad if I take a benadryl first.

I hate pineapple so why I couldn't be allergic to that eh. Murphy's law I guess.

^I feel for you. I would be saddened to be allergic to peaches, although here in Newfoundland it's not much of a problem because your chance of finding a decent peach anywhere is about 10^892837283 to 1.

A fresh, ripe, off-the-tree peach is one of life's true joys.

I find the imported peaches are so tasteless. Home grown are the best.

Legend has it that East Hamilton had some of the best peaches in the world before it was urbanized.

Yes we had some great produce way back when Flar. And not just peaches. Sadly we are losing so much farmland due to the new surveys they are putting in.

They want to build up Fletcher's Road area. It will be sad to see all those farms gone in time, especially when the road was named after them. I have a lot of fond memories from my childhood visiting all the Fletchers, since they are distant family of mine. My great grandmother was a Fletcher.

^That is sad. One of the highlights of my time in St. Louis was going out at in the middle of summer and picking fresh peaches straight off the tree in the orchards in Illinois. So tasty. So addictive. The smell is just intoxicating.

Peaches are indeed something that should have a hedonistic festival.

I like getting those peach ice cream thingy at the peach fest. So friggin good. You bite into the peach and peach juice explodes into your mouth.

I bet this year the peaches are extra juicy because of all the rain. Apples this year is damn good too.

I heard this was going to be an exceptional year with the peaches. Can't wait to get a peach sundae.

I just wished peach season lasted longer around here. But I guess we can't stop mother nature from throwing her white crap on us...LOL

And yes, I love the smell of them too.

Edit: Hamilton has lots 20% of its farmlands since 1991??!?! wtf that's rediculious, I didn't think it was THAT high.
I remember, I think it was like 2000 or 2001, Winona Fair Grounds were almost sold off to developpers. We wouldn't even be having a Peach Festival if this happened. They ended up developing part of the lands, but just a small portion.

What really gets me is that these new residents will write in and b*tch their faces off to the Stoney Creek News about how rediculously busy it is. First of all, it's ONCE A YEAR! Secondly, they KNEW the Peach Fest happens every year so maybe they should have moved into a new house somewhere esle then!

Whatev... all that matters now is that I'll be enjoying my delicious, juicy, melty Peach Sundae while the ol' grumps sit in their homes scared to leave b/c of all the teenagers looking 'suspicious'

Well with so many people living longer they need more housing. So it's a catch 22 you know. Still sad to see all the farmland disapearing though.

An aging population needs mobility without driving, close access to amenities and medical facilities, and properties that are easy to manage - in other words, the opposite of low density, single use sprawl.

We could easily house twice as many people on half the land. Look at Westdale or Gage Park neighbourhoods.

I went to the Peach Festival yesterday. It was much bigger than I thought and they have a beautiful park with lots of big shade trees in Winona.

Was also there last night and had a great time. Didn't see the Peach Queen tho

The sundaes were fantastic!! Super fresh, not too tart, not too sweet... just right! AND I only had to wait 7mins in line to get it!

I've never been. I love peaches but always figured that the festival would be kind of lame.
maybe I'll check it out next year.
