This is quite a significant project.

http://www.dal.ca/news/2011/04/11/br...caddition.html - The Life Sciences Centre has seen some big changes in the past year, thanks to a $34.5 million retrofit project partially funded through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program. Now, construction is set to begin on a new addition to the facility.
Dubbed the Oceans Excellence Centre, the 68,000-square-foot complex, which was recently approved by Dalhousie’s Board of Governors with a project budget of $30 million, will be added to the west end of the building, connected via a glass atrium with the Oceanography wing. The four-story building begins construction this spring with an estimated completion date of January 2013.

That's a really bad rendering and the building looks like a slightly touched up version of something from 1982.

Hopefully the actual building will look more modern than the rendering. It will make the Life Sciences Centre look less brutalistic from Oxford Street.

This one is now U/C - at least according to an article on dal news and based off of what I've seen onsite. Pics to come later..

Construction begins on Oceans Excellence Centre.
Brenda MacPhee

With the majority of Dalhousie’s students taking a break from their academic schedule, summer is the ideal time to begin construction on projects and upgrades across Dalhousie campus. Two projects that has begun are upgrades to the underground pipes and stone gates on Lord Dalhousie Drive and the ground breaking for the new Oceans Excellence Centre (OEC).

Since June 16, Edzell Castle Circle has been transformed into an excavation site for the OEC, with large trucks accessing on a daily basis and increased levels of noise and dust. Construction on the OEC is expected to be completed in January 2013.

Work on Lord Dalhousie Drive has also started and will last up to six weeks, with traffic being re-routed as sections of the drive are completed and new segments are repaired. Part of the work involves physically moving the large stone gates to ensure safer vehicle access onto Coburg Road.

Although work is scheduled concurrently on Lord Dalhousie Drive and the OEC, measures will be taken to ensure that both vehicle and pedestrian access is always available. In addition, regular updates will be made through Notice Digest and on the Facilities Management website. As with any work being done on campus, the specific project manager’s contact information will be included in all positings and this individual can be contacted with any questions or concerns.

With a sever thunderstorm warning, I can't think of a better thing to do than continue with the erection of a tower crane. Photos by me:

You can't really get a good view of this from the road so I went into the LSC and took these pics from the 5th floor of the oceans department. Hopefully it turns out beter than that poor rendering!

Here is another rendering from the Dal website.

Source

This is another project on the back side of the LSC, it will start construction in 2012, and from what I read elsewhere it is fully funded by a donation.

I think we will have to wait and see the finished product before we will know how this will turn out. the first rendering doesn't show much detail but at least it shows the general shape.

The second rendering looks decent. It is hard to tell how many floors it is, 1 or 2 floors?

Its a private club, over 100 years old. The white house is the clubhouse, the boathouse is in the foreground and the sailing school building is on the right.

This one is nearly topped out, they are working on the last floor. Here's a blurry photo, I have yet to figure out a good way to take a photo at night or in low light.
