2% of Round Rock ...

.... the other 98% of it is uncontrolled growth and sprawl filled with walmarts, targets, best buys, home depots, strip centers, outlets, gas stations, walgreens, cookie cutter houses and streets that don't seem to fit together. It left this Houstonian with wonder and awe. Finally, I found an area that put Houston to shame.

However, I was able to find its very small heart, still beating (barely).

And the rock that gave Round Rock its name:

And the DT:

Adios

That's definitely not the sprawling, suburban Round Rock most people know. I had no idea it had such a nice, historic looking downtown area.

Even with its suburban character, Round Rock does have a lot of high quality neighborhoods, ranging from very old to very new.

What is Round Rock's population these days?

so that's Round Rock's historic area...nice. i actually don't mind the sprawl...it is what it is, and there's places to shop there that we don't have out here in the sprawl of BFE.

Nice pics. Yeah Round Rock is a sprawled out suburb for sure. The old town and downtown areas are all but forgotten among the sea of sprawl.

Not sure of the most recent numbers. In 2005 they had 86,316. They're probably close to 100,000 now if not more. By far Austin's biggest suburb.

Nice. I live a few miles south of that place (in the City of Austin) and I have never ventured there. It looks decent.

But yeah, I know that Round Rock (like all Austin suburbs) is growing rapidly. From 2000-2005, there was nearly a 40% population increase in that town. Now, they are estimated to have nearly doubled its 2000 population (with nearly 110,000 residents)
