Depressing. It seems like there could be so much potential in Gary. I never thought that a city like that could fall so fast and so hard. So much history, so many old buildings that would look great if they were fixed up. All cities have bad areas in them, I just never could imagine a city such as Gary, E. St Louis, or Camden, NJ or even Cairo Illinois, be a shell of it's former self. Even cities such as Detroit, and St. Louis are making a surprise comeback. Hopefully something good will come of it.

So, sad that a city can fall apart like that. It's not a small city, right? Where are all the people? Does all of Gary look like that?

how as a society could we let this happen?

can't we get a billionaire to essentially buy up the town, sell lots for below market price, and completely redo the place?

I was hoping that the town had turned around since the last photo thread it was featured in. I still have some hope.

Ok, twas on this ride too.

It had nice homes! There were some nice homes on the road into town.

It might have been on commercial streets full of ramshackle ex-Burger King's turned into drive-up cornerstores with handmade signs made from acrylic paint and cardboard, but....

It had nice homes!

You can just hear the soulful echo of the Black Michael Jackson's voice resonating through the broken windows, sulfur aroma, and burnt housing frames of the dust strewn G.I. streets, whispering in your ear..... "oh baby give me one more chaaaaaaance, (show me that I love you), won't you pleeeease let meeeeee (back in your heart)."

Please let Gary back in your heart. It has nice homes.

I can only imagine how amazing this building would be if it were located in Lincoln Park or East Lakeview as opposed to Gary. It's sad to see buildings with such great bones neglected so badly.
