I like this new render, that front facade looks extra modern especially for this part of town.

We also have a thread for this site as it happens

It's some nice idealism but as we always see with concrete that juts out like that there is no way that passes engineering without some sort of supports underneath it, esp. since it doesn't appear to continue into the building so it would be much too side heavy..

buuut who knows what they can do with metal supports these days.. I mean the courthouse has some slight jutouts on it downtown..

actually maybe it DOES continue inside.. it's hard to tell with the reflections..

in any case.. while some say this looks ultra modern I find the curved part kinda looks dated /80s like personally. Reminds me of the corduroy like concrete banding some of the old buildings have had on them from that era.. Perhaps it will look a bit better depending on what they choose for the wood ceiling cladding.. I almost thought it was concrete from the render until I looked closer..

also is everyone against colour these days.. it's all beiges and taupes..

Modern 80s looks kind of great though. Most of the stuff we hate about specific generations of design was the bad stuff. The good stuff kind of blends into the background, or is appreciated without the knowledge of when it was built.

curves! so hot right now

they can definitely engineer an overhang like that no problem - I hope they have the budget to do so!

if you're ever in markham i recommend popping by the wong dai sin temple for some good cantilever action

Yeah lets hope they do it right if they do do it properly - I just tire of seeing architectural renderings before the actual engineers change it - so many designs like that in hamilton - hence my pessimism.. because this is hamilton, and I can't think of anywhere offhand in hamilton this has actually been done, but don't quote me on that of course..

Also those panels in the above pic look like I'll get tetinus just by touching them

Looks like site work is beginning. Excavators have been on site this week digging below grade.

Foundation work looks to be at grade on this. Pretty busy place as I rode by this morning.
