Downtown Los Angeles - The Many Sides Of The City

Downtown LA is probably one of the most diverse of american downtowns. There are so many sections, that most people don't even realize this. Also since hardly anyone even ventured into these areas of downtown, and I personally get tired of seeing the same scenes. I decided to take my camera and get some scenes of less photographed parts of downtown.
Be warned it was a bad day for taking pictures, and the fact that I should have been in the area earlier in the morning for better lighting didn't help. I also apologize for my camera, its on its last legs. Hopefully I can purchase one for my upcoming trip to Europe this fall. Anyway I thought I still share them, so please enjoy.

We'll start off in Little Tokyo

Yeah another trendy Pinkberry's Frozen Yogurt opening soon

Union Station

Where the city of LA began, more known as Olvera Street to the locals.

Arts District

Mmm, my now favorite coffee company, they have the best espresso I've tasted. For those who love cappuccino's its a place you have to check out when you visit LA

Next Stop Chinatown

DASH buses are the best thing that happened for downtown LA, and now many of the city's neighborhoods have them. 25 cents will get you anywhere.

The Last Stop was along the Gold Line, and this is one of the many TOD's being built around Los Angeles. Although this is not in downtown LA, but its only three stations to Union Station, and perhaps a 5-7 mins ride. I can't say I was all that crazy about the design, but the interior on the loft style units I visited was impressive and nice size of almost 1300 sq feet for a 1 bedroom loft. Price was $424,000 for that unit.

Yuck, I wouldn't want a unit facing that autoshop across the street.

They also had rentals, as there seem to be several different complexes built near this gold line station.

Little Tokyo is looking good. Though you didn't get any pics of the LA State Historic Park?

Poor persecuted LA.

I never said it was persecuted, misunderstood perhaps. Most tourists (other than Japanese, but even this is changing) people don't visit this part of downtown LA, and I wanted to share another side. In fact right now many young angelenos of all races are discovering Little Tokyo. It seems to be one of the most active parts of downtown at night now days. It probably has something to do with many of the restaurants stay open well past midnight.

I think what's been interesting to see over the past 5 years or so is the cohesion that's going on between these districts. Honestly Olvera Street and the Fashion District are kind of light years apart, but with all the new projects going in they actually feel, at least to some extent, linked. (I was just using two examples - there are many)

It's another demonstration to me at least that the mixed-use 4 story projects are actually alot more important than some mega development (glaring at you Bunker Hill and LA Live).

Downtown LA is a collection of disparate jewels...nice to see them being tied together in some way. I'd love to see the LA River somehow tied into this as well (wouldn't everyone?).

I applied for a job that was located on Spring Street in downtown LA. It was a very cool job description, lo I never got an interview. My one trip to downtown LA a few years ago though, proved that indeed, it is very diverse.

Some interesting stuff in here. Although a lot in the beginning did not work for me. Cut off when you started talking about that Pinkberry joint.

Yeah I noticed this as well, I can't figure out why they stop showing up. They're not even on the server anymore.

I wanna see the red x pics

Downtown Los Angeles looks different every time I'm up there, there's so much going up its insane. Your photos are from a very underrated part of town (and to think we held a goodbye meet in that area almost two years ago when we all thought you were moving to Chicago ). Great job as always, Chris!
