Cor-ten steel rules! i love the stuff. from another thread, i'm interested in compiling a list of all skyscraper that are clad with Cor-ten steel. here's what I have so far. please post any other Cor-ten skyscraper beauties that you know of.

Plus, I think One Liberty is in fact black painted steel?

nope, all the towers posted in the first post are clad with Cor-ten.

Can we talk about how awesome Cor-ten looks with bronze glass windows for a minute? I despise bronze windows with just about everything except black or cor-ten structural members. Time-Life in Chicago is one of my favorite buildings in the world because of this color combination. Also its white and turquoise and red and green neighbors add to it to create a delicious mash of color and texture.

Don't feel too bad, you're not the only one. I googled corten and Deere and more than one site said it was in Iowa, one person even wrote that they visited Deere headquarters in DES MOINES!

But, regardless, I live a just few miles from Deere HQ on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities and don't mind being associated with Iowa.

Me on a Sunday afternoon visit.

I like boxes, most of the time they can look very sleek and impressive, but the facade on these buildings are just downright fugly.

^ i strongly disagree. i find cor-ten to be one of the absolute best building cladding materials on the planet. it's such a raw and powerful material.

and yeah, i know this thread was originally about cor-ten highrises, but saarinen's john deere headquarters is one of the coolest works of architecture anywhere. i simply have to make a pilgrimage down to the quad cities to see it for myself sometime.

It's too bad Mr. Saarinen passed away before seeing his finished product.

Deere Inc. first envisioned a highrise HQ in downtown Moline but Saarinen himself suggested placing headquarters on a big plot of rolling prairie/woodland in the country just outside of town since Deere is a farming company. He kept the building low and horizontal and used earthy cor-ten steel to represent the midwest prairie. (plus I heard that he thought downtown Moline was pretty damn ugly, but hey the Quad Cities is a gritty, dirty, industrial place)
