Mixed-Use Tower Cluster Proposed for Frankfurt’s City Center

Quote:
Dutch firm UNStudio is to bring a mixed-use scheme comprising offices, apartments, retail, hotel, and culinary opportunities to the former Deutsche Bank site in Frankfurt. Aiming to open up the site towards the city center and integrate the listed building façades on the Junghofstraße, the proposal will introduce four high-rise towers – the tallest rising to 228 meters in height – and will provide approximately 600 new apartments for the burgeoning city center district. The main towers will be among the highest residential and office buildings in Frankfurt, while the varied program proposed for the podium is designed to invigorate the financial district.

Ben van Berkel, founder of UNStudio comments: “bringing a mixed-use project into this financial district will not only enliven the area during daytime, but it will also introduce evening programs and create an essential form of social sustainability to this part of the city. The introduction of the residential and the leisure components are key to this strategy. This sculptural family of towers will also create the suggestion of a cohesive neighborhood within the skyline and emphasize the importance of this part of the city within the whole.”

The four towers will be organized to frame the central square. Their contrasting orientation and heights will inherently articulate variations within the skyline and optimize daylight penetration.

As the complex moves out of the proposal stage, construction is expected to start in the course of the coming year; the first building is due to be in use by 2020

UNStudio Wins Competition for Landmark Mixed-Use Development in Frankfurt

Quote:
UNStudio has been selected as the winners of an international competition to design a new mixed-use development on the site of the former Deutsche Bank offices in Frankfurt, Germany. Selected to complete the urban strategy for the district last March, UNStudio has now been unanimously selected to carry out the architectural redevelopment of the site, beating out third prize proposals from the teams of Dudler / Jahn and MSW / Snøhetta, and an honorable mention from Christoph Mäckler / CoopHimmelblau.

The new mixed-use development will consist of four high-rise towers ascending from a multi-story plinth in the heart of the city. The project includes space for retail, restaurants and hotels, as well as a full range of residential accommodation. The four towers, rising up to 228 meters (748 feet) high, will serve as a new landmark on the Frankfurt skyline.

Construction on the project is expected to begin later this year, with the first building slated to open in 2021.

Superb quality design, 10/10 just right in scale for the site and context with its surroundings. My city desperately needs this level of design for our residential sectors

Oh wow, this looks amazing, Frankfurt really gets the best skyscrapers in Europe and some of the best modern development in general.

I was looking at some of the smaller office buildings the other day, sleek as f*ck, love it.

^ Even high-rises are currently growing sleek over there.
Did you wander around? I just did, starting from your link, just like that before going to bed.
That's a high-end neighborhood.

And the town is the seat of the worldwide famous European Central Bank.
Soon to overtake your US Federal stuff.
We'll make sure it does, eventually.

That's how you build sleek buindlings in this ugly nasty world, whatever their height.
Drawing money as if it grew on trees or fell down from the sky as a gift from God.

Hard to tell, but at first blush it feels like the white accents along the curved edges have been dramatically scaled back and the separation of floor plates nearly eliminated from the renderings. Which doesn't quite work for this type of design. But will save judgement until we see more progress.
