World’s Tallest Rollercoaster and Entertainment Complex
“The Skyscraper™ at SKYPLEX™” To Electrify Orlando Skyline in 2016
Mango’s Tropical Café Orlando and SKYPLEX Will Bring ‘Ocean Drive to I-Drive’

#Skyscraper #Orlando #SKYPLEX

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 5, 2014) – David and Joshua Wallack, the owners of Mango’s Tropical Café Orlando and Mango’s Tropical Café South Beach, today announced plans to develop the world’s tallest roller coaster The Skyscraper™ and the lavish SKYPLEX™ indoor entertainment complex at International Drive and Sand Lake Road.

The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX, the towering coaster to be built not far from the soon-to-open Orlando Eye 425-foot ferris wheel, will alter the Orlando skyline dramatically. The $200 million SKYPLEX will comprise approximately 495,000 square feet located on 12 prime acres. SKYPLEX will break ground in 2015 and is expected to open in 2016. Along with Mango’s Orlando, SKYPLEX will be bringing an irresistible dining and new nightlife vibe to the International Drive district.

“Next to our theme parks, International Drive is one of the most recognized icons of Orlando,” said Visit Orlando president and CEO George Aguel. “It’s exciting for our tourism community to see this type of investment being made to continuously raise the bar on the dining and entertainment experiences we offer across our destination.”

The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX is 570 feet tall and will feature the first Polercoaster built. This mega-thrill ride is a vertical rollercoaster created with coaster-length tracks featuring “all the other thrilling mayhem” of a great coaster experience, but “in a very small footprint,” according to Michael Kitchen, President of US Thrill Rides, the Orlando based company that created the ride.

Its near it but not next to it. The wheel isn't too far from it since the wheel is on Westwood Boulevard. Also, near the convention center.

The World's Tallest Roller Coaster Will Tower 55 Stories Above the Earth

Quote:
Coaster enthusiasts are always on the hunt for their next big thrill, and come 2016 they may be drawn back to Orlando. That's when the Skyplex complex is set to open, featuring the world's tallest roller coaster wrapped around its 570-foot tall tower.

The Polercoaster—as it will be known—is part of a larger 495,000 square foot complex that will include restaurants, shopping, and other attractions. But the star will certainly be the coaster, which hits a top speed of 65 miles per hour and gives thrill-seekers a three minute ride along its 5,200 feet of track.

Exclusive: Skyplex developer spends $12.5M on I-Drive parcel

Quote:
The developer of the planned $200 million Skyplex complex added another piece of land to its holdings to prepare for the massive entertainment complex on Orlando’s International Drive.

Related entity WF I Drive Realty LLC reportedly spent $12.5 million to buy the 3.7-acre site housing Dowdy Properties’ World Bowling Center, which for years was the tourist corridors’ lone bowling alley. The bowling complex — which Ron Dowdy built 25 years ago and has owned since then — closed earlier this summer, but the Galaxy Fun indoor play area remains open, according to an employee who answered the phone for World Bowling Center.

Representatives from Skyplex were not immediately available for comment.
The property, owned by Dowdy’s related R.E. Dowdy #6 LLC, has an assessed value of $3.5 million, Orange County records showed.

Meanwhile, WF I Drive Realty last month bought the property that includes a 7-Eleven, and had previously bought a Burger King site and paved parking behind it. Plans for Skyplex call for 12 acres.

If any city could pull this off, it's probably Orlando, the city that made a name for itself with the world's greatest theme parks.

Sidebar: I'd love to see when I-Drive has it's "let's engage the pedestrian experience" moment that the Vegas strip is currently trying its hand at...could create quite a dense, lovely boulevard

Most of the 570 foot original figure is for the roller coaster. Just for comparison, Kingda Ka in Six Flags in NJ is 456 feet. This will be over a 100 feet taller coaster wise.

Giant Perkins added to Skyplex lineup

Quote:
Additions to Skyplex, an entertainment complex under development on International Drive, will include a 10,000-square-foot Perkins restaurant and alter the path of Skyscraper, bringing the world's tallest roller coaster looping near the corner of I-Drive and Sand Lake Road.

The plan probably will demolish the current Perkins on that corner by the end of the year, said Joshua Wallack, managing principal of Skyplex. The new restaurant, which would be the largest Perkins in the world, would open with Skyplex in 2017, he said.

The new restaurant will anchor a new open-air promenade called SkyPlaza, developers will announce Wednesday. A pedestrian bridge will connect Skyplex and SkyPlaza, which will house additional retailers.

"We are delighted to be part of this exhilarating and premier development project," said Jeff Warne, CEO of Perkins. "We look forward to sharing details with the community and our guests as plans unfold."

The current location is the top-grossing Perkins in the country, Wallack said. The company is enthused about the project, he said.

"They are believers," Wallack said. "They love it."

The addition reorients parts of the project. From the pedestrian standpoint, Wallack said, the front will move to the southwest corner of the 14-acre site, Wallack said.

Wallack Holdings, developer of the $300 million project, also released a video simulation of Skyscraper and its new path. The coaster will top out above the 500-foot mark.

Skyplex plans include 350-room hotel on Orlando's International Drive

Quote:
A 350-room hotel and a restaurant atop the Skyscraper roller coaster were among new details released Wednesday about the proposed Skyplex Orlando entertainment complex on International Drive.

Joshua Wallack, managing principal for the project, discussed plans for the complex during an Orange County community meeting about the latest I-Drive project.

“Sometimes I don’t believe that this is real,” said Wallack. “But it is.”

The restaurant would sit above an observation deck that will be built above the 500-foot-high Skyscraper roller coaster, which would be the tallest coaster in the world, Wallack said at the rezoning meeting.

He hopes to begin site work in the fourth quarter of this year, with plans to open in 2017.

The complex, to be built on seven parcels of land at the corner of Sand Lake Road and International Drive, has cost $50 million in land acquisition, said Wallack.
