1540 Upper Wentworth | ? | 8 fl | Under Construction

Hamilton East Kiwanis Non-Profit Homes is proposing to redevelop the northeast corner of their property at 1540 Upper Wentworth Street. The proposed redevelopment is for an eight-storey multi-residential building with one-hundred and twenty-eight (128) units of affordable rental housing. The units will be a mix of one, two and three bedroom dwellings.

Never a huge fan of surface parking, but good infill none the less, and the lot is small on the surface. Just so much wasted space for more units.

At least the surface parking is tucked away behind the building and not visible from the street

There is underground parking as well. If you look at the drawing of the parking lot there is an underground entrance.

It's also diffucult to put underground parking in place at most locations on the mountain. The rock in most places is only 8-10 ft below the surface.

Hamilton just really didn't want underground parking eh, mountain has rock, and lower city has mud.

Part of the Great Greige-ing of Hamilton.

Could be so much better, but could also be worse (There is not a lot of big-box retail in the immediate area... or single-level plazas aside from what's on Rymal. This could have become one of those kinds of sites with some zoning change)
