A Walking Tour of Downtown Buffalo

I visited Buffalo for the first time last week and the weather was perfect to take a walk downtown. Armed with Look Up, Buffalo! A Walking Tour of Buffalo, New York by Doug Gelbert, I set out to get some pictures.

very enjoyable -- it's a nice reference of the historic highlights of buffalo, but it also felt like we were walking around town with you and i like those kinds of threads

Nice pictures. I know Buffalo really well, but have never really been on Main Street when traffic wasn't allowed, so I have not seen a couple of these buildings before.

Doug Gelbert did a "Look Up, Delaware" book, and has other books for the Mid-Atlantic states. Sometimes his information is a little thin, but then he is also good for providing information for a building that you won't find elsewhere.

If you ever get to go to explore the Ellicott Square Building. Do it. The mosaics on the floors will blow you away. The stairs are amazing also. Excellent job on the photos. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting everyone. I really liked Buffalo, and I hope to return one day. I want to see some of the interiors, especially City Hall. I thought about doing the City Hall tour they offer at noon, but I decided to take the bus out to Niagara Falls instead.

After Buffalo, I took the train to Penn Station and used Gelbert's Midtown Manhattan book. I also enjoyed that.

Such great bones. Seems the worst might be over for these hard hit old industrial centers. Sounds like there is some hospital/educational development and some apartment conversions going on downtown. Hopefully, the downtown residential market catches fire and the private sector companies and suburban shoppers/dinners start heading back to the city center too.

Great to see the old buildings downtown. I had some fun times in Buffalo. I would love to have visited in the roaring 20s and seen all the activity downtown. Thanks for the tour.
