Question What song best describes Vancouver?

My iTunes just shuffled to Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" and it got me thinking, is there a song out there that describes Vancouver? Of course, there isn't a song that has been written about Vancouver directly...

Arrow Try classical musical music; Why not ? .....

What about a piece of classical music? Try the first movement of "The Holberg Suite" by Edvard Grieg. 'Praeludium.' It has the sounds of rushing water, youth, vivacity, freshness, new beginnings, hope; all things we like to associate with Vancouver.

serene, natural, laid-back, utopian, futuristic... that idea becomes clearest at 3:53 onwards

empire state of mind is such a new york song, but it a great song for night driving over lions gate bridge and seeing downtown though =)

Don't know about songs but this is the coolest vid of Vancouver I've come across in a long time! Here is the link: http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2010/06/dear-vancouver-my-city.html

I don't know how to put videos on the forums, so please those that know how to add this. It's awesome!

This was floating around the forum earlier this year. I found it pretty awesome, shows off the city well, and the song itself is pretty laid back and chill out.

Trooper's "We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)" is about Vancouver.

trofirhen, re: classical music that one is a good choice, but my idea of classical music reflecting vancouver is more along the lines of Glass or Pärt. Minimalist, a bit gloomy and grey in which we have moments of clarity and brightness dappling around us to remind us of the rich life that we have.

Are you talking about Paul Glass? If so, he wrote the score to the 1965 film "BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING," one of the most haunting pieces I have ever heard.

Pärt? Sorry for displaying my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with works by that composer.

(If it was not Paul Glass, then who were you referring to? I'm interested. Thanks)

It doesn't 'describe' Vancouver but 'Flavor' by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion has a shout-out to Vancouver.

Supertramp's "It's raining again", although, had the song actually been written as an homage to Vancouver the title would have been "It's raining again...and again...and again...etc..."

Sorry, I meant Philip Glass, a prolific American composer. Look up Metamorphosis, that's what I had in mind.

And Arvo Pärt... Estonian composer. I had Mein Weg in mind for the Vancouver winter. Some of his more well-known works might be a bit staid and dark for most tho.

I'd have to say pretty much anything by Strange Days by Matt Good.

He's pretty might the right mix of smart, cynical and asshole who still can't come to terms with being as popular as he is. Sounds like Vancouver to me. Plus I'm pretty sure the chorus of the song is about rush hour on hwy #1.
