That's actually pretty cool! It doesn't look anywhere near as crappy as previous Olympic videogames.

I wonder if that's what the torch will actually look like... and if we'll actually have fireworks like that!!

^ lol, a bit too tacky imo....but i do love the banners around BC Place, and the fireworks of course. :p

Though i do fear that there might not be any outdoor fireworks for our ceremonies.

Not to mention, the whole area would be quite a bit nicer if the Plaza of Nations were still around. I'm sure we could've put it to good use, and the area looked better. Whoever tore it down should've done it after 2010. The other day, i noticed the flag poles were still there...i wonder if they might add more flag poles to include all 80+ nations.

I can practically guarantee that we will have a massive out door fireworks display. The opening ceremonies is not designed with the live audience in mind. It is a television event first so it doesn't matter that people inside BC Place won't be able to see the fireworks outside.

BTW the game looks great. Much more fun looking than the poor quality games from past Olympics.

When David Atkins first won the job of being in charge of the 2010 ceremonies, he mentioned that we might not have fireworks (after Beijing's fireworks balooza) and that "we may try something different". He also suggested that they might try to make it snow inside the stadium, which I thought was gimmicky and lame. They are certainly spending a large chunk of that $50-million opening/closing ceremonies budget on special effects.

I agree with you, there should be fireworks regardless. And Vancouver provides such a great backdrop for fireworks displays....imagine having five Celebration of Light sized fireworks barges going off in the waters.
