Campsite
Water was way low
Contemplating the odd ground
An exposed sandbar, covered in dead lake weed. We had just seen The Two Towers and this was dubbed the Dead Marshes.
Someone ran aground when the water was a bit higher
The odd ground, loose shale that has been turned vertical by the uplift of the black hills.
A thicket of willows is a jungle to some
Kids tents ( the extra tarp was very helpful when it rained the next day)

Did that trip as a kid also. What hardy souls, taking kids so young camping! Bet it was fun though. We always did the motel thing. With 5 brothers/Sisters, can see why.

The kids have been camping - several times a year - since the first was 2mo old ( they're easier when immobile ). Once you have the routine down it isn't that hard, and it is CHEAP ! A night hike up a small mountain is remembered much more vividly than Wall Drug. Although they do groan when they see a "Roadside Geology of ....." book.
