record shopping

hey, i want to pick up some new vinyls tomorrow and i was wondering if the forum has any tips on where to go.

i'm going to cheapies and dr disc

i would like to go to sonic unyon but i have a bad feeling about the retail store there.. i passed by and it looked sorta dead.. is it still open?

also, are there any other places i could go? i know there were a few along king west, but i don't know their names, nor if they have remained open for business.

i'd appreciate any tips

thanks

I was going to suggest Cheapies. They've got in an incredibly huge selection. You also just missed out on a vinyl sidewalk sale that they had on Friday. Even still, you should find something there.

definitely check out Puttin' on the Ritz's selection of records at the back of Spiritual Smoke on King West...

The SU Store is no more.

Dundas has two that are worth a look: Records on Wheels (34 King St. E.) and Diamond Groove (6 Hatt St., inside Alternative Audio), which is small but probably stocks more new vinyl (ie. factory sealed) than anyone in the city. Not a lot of cross-over with downtown stores, but that's a good thing.

Sonic Unyon still distributes vinyl, but just got out of retail. Dr. Disc carries a lot of their product I believe.

Watch for the Hamilton Record Shows, they happen 3 or 4 times a year at the Staybridge Suites hotel (used to be at the Ramada). The next one should be pretty soon.

...

Puttin' on hte Ritz organizes them... they are now ar the staybridge.... around 40-50 vendors from southern ontario. I have found some great stuff there. Also Sonic Unyon has outdoor sales sometimes, the last one was rained out - so there may be one soon. They are good because it's usually quite cheap. It of course carries all new vinyl.

DC;

I take it you haven't gone by recently, but last week they were carting a lot of materials out of the underground. Which has since been renamed 'Babylon Nightclub' which is having Celebrity Fridays and I can't remember what Saturdays are to be.

I forgot about Casbah. Don't know if I'd include Absinthe in that category though.
