Here is an article which begs the question ... what happened to Spirted Energy? Found this on the Manitoba Chamber website.. and I admit I didn't know May 12th was Manitoba Day.
--------------------------------------------------------
A 2004 survey revealed that only two percent of Manitobans knew that May 12 was Manitoba Day, the day that officially marks the creation of our great province. We think it is a shame that we do not use Manitoba Day more effectively to celebrate and remind everyone just how great this province is. We have big plans for Manitoba Day 2007 and if you believe in celebrating our province we can sure use your help.
Proposed Initiatives:
Wearing our pride: Our goal is to distribute 5,136 (it’s Manitoba’s 136th birthday) ‘HAVE a Happy Manitoba Day’ buttons.
A ‘Meet & Greet’ with a Unique Panel: On May 11, (a Friday afternoon) three Manitoba authors will share great stories and insights about some of Manitoba’s remarkable natural features and sights. The authors will also be available for book signings. We will have:
Bill Stilwell, author of Manitoba, Naturally: Scenic Secrets of Manitoba
Prairie Pathfinders, author of Manitoba Walks
Bartley Kives, Daytripper’s Guide to Manitoba
After the panel discussion the meet and greet will serve up some incredible tastes of Manitoba.
There are three ways you can help:
Donate funds. We are looking for a broad range of sponsors to donate $400 each. Those funds will cover:
the costs of the buttons,
a full page ad in various publications, (depending on the amount of money raised), featuring the logos of those who contributed $400 and wishing everyone a happy Manitoba Day, and
the costs of putting on the meet and greet.
Each sponsor will receive 20 buttons (we will give away the rest). Companies can order extra buttons if they wish more for their own business.
Distributing Buttons: Cash sponsors will have a chance to volunteer to hand out buttons at key areas around the city. If any of you who are contributing $400 are interested, let us know.
Contribute food products for the meet and greet: Dave Shambrock of the Manitoba Food Processors has graciously agreed to take the lead on this aspect of the celebrations. If you are interested in contributing food products please contact him at 982-6372 (ph.) or by email at
mfpa@mfpa.mb.ca.
Come to the meet and greet: Come on down and have a great time celebrating our province. Attendance is free, although we would encourage people to register ahead of time.
