Tallest Christmas "tree" in Texas.

I had to post this here. This photo of the Zilker Park Christmas Tree from tonight is just so beautiful. We went to the lighting ceremony tonight. This tree is actually made up of 39 strands containing over 3,300 25-watt bulbs strung up on the Moonlight Tower in Zilker Park. These Mooonlight Towers were built in 1895 to light the central areas of Austin. This one has been decorated as a Christmas tree since 1967. The Moonlight Towers in Austin are the world's oldest urban lighting system that are still in use.

From the Austin American-Statesman

Rodolfo Gonzalez AMERICAN-STATESMAN
It's on! The famed Zilker Tree has added its wintry brilliance to Austin's skyline around Christmastime since 1967. More than 3,000 lights on the 155-foot tree set up around the moonlight tower in Zilker Park will illuminate the sky each night through New Year's Eve.

Some video of the tree, (not mine).

Video of someone looking up and spinning beneath the tree. This is a favorite thing to do for Austinites.

Yes.

They also filmed part of the movie at my middle school, (Bedicheck Middle School). I was in the 6th grade there at the time.

From Wikipedia.org:

Quote:
The school the characters attend, called Lee High School, was actually Bedichek Middle School in South Austin, TX.

* Bedichek Middle School is located at 6800 Bill Hughes Rd. Austin, TX 78745
