ORLANDO | 55 West On The Esplanade | 377 FT / 115 M | 32 FLOORS

Since there is work being done at the site now, I thought the time was right to start a thread dedicated to tracking the progress of the 55 West tower in Orlando.

I really like the design. The roof is nice too. I counted 29 or 30 stories, so I'm guessing the height somewhere between 325-375ft?. Is there an official height for this building yet?

I'll be in Orlando next January so I'll get to see this thing pretty much topped out.

The last official stats I saw was 32 stories and 396'. Demolition has just started. I would say by January it might be just barely out of the ground.

Walked by the site today, sales center was closed with a note on the windows that the Sales Center was being temporarily relocated to Condo HQ while a new center is created during construction.

Some news in this week's OBJ concerning 55 West:

First the bad:
-Seems the original contractor (Skanska) which pulled out of the project earlier this year has filed liens against the developer for unpaid preconstruction work. A contract has yet to be signed with the new contractor (PCL) but negotiations are underway. All blamed on rising construction costs
-The 40 additional condos were the result of reducing the size of the health club and the eliminating the office portion of the project, does not sound like an increase of floors from the 32.

Now the good:
-The Market Garage is closing August 1 for construction.

Can't post a link as the article will not be online until Monday.

It looks like the design has been tweaked since I saw the last rendering. Looks good. Good to see a project providing some density for downtown O-Town.

no offence, but that is a really conservative (ie: boring) design...

It's nice to see Edmonton's PCL construction company working way down in Orlando!

That is a shopping complex from the mid to late 80s. So no, not brand new, but not very old either.

Nope, still looks just like the pics above. The good news is that the construction permits were just pulled for the project and a General Contractor has been signed up. We should be seeing something soon.
