Title: W Hotel & Element by Westin
Project: 500 hotel rooms, conference center, pool, fitness center, underground parking, ground floor retail
Architect: CopeLinder Architects
Developer: Starwood Hotels/Chestlen Development
Location: 1441 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA
Floors: 51
Height: 617 ft

The W Hotel proposed for 1441 Chestnut St. has secured all approvals to move forward, according to the hotel company and a construction-industry website that tracks such projects in the United States.

Starwood is proposing a 52 floor tower. The Center City Residents Association approved it.... the architects are also going to be Cope Linder Architects, who is the firm that designed the Waldorf-Astoria

In the spring, construction is scheduled to begin on the 500-room hotel, which will offer a conference center, a pool and a fitness center among its amenities. Completion is set for January 2015.

Perhaps...but developers don't have to release an official rendering before construction begins. See: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=177316

That is not an official rendering, yet they've begun construction and they're almost finished with the foundation.

This post gives up to date info. They went before the CCRA and posted in their Agenda Outcome was some telling info. about the possibile height of the new hotel.

52 floors and 582 feet seems to be the talk around town... the architects are also going to be Cope Linder... who are the same Architect firm that designed the first Waldorf-Astoria design. Also, all parking will be below ground now.

Which means this is the largest project and addition to the Philadelphia skyline since Comcast.

1919 Market is the only other non-dead one that has potential of 600+, if I recall correctly. I doubt Cira 2 will be 800-1,000 like anticipated.

I am excited to see how this project and the new apartments at The Sansom impact the activity on the street. 500+ hotel rooms and 104 new apartments all in a 2 block area should give the retail in the area a pretty big lift.

quick question, is this near center city? as in around the skyline area (where most of the buildings are) or is this furthur out somewhere

Cope Linder was to be the architect of note for whatever ended up being built on that site apparently. They've been responsible for every version of 1441 Chestnut up to Waldorf-Astoria.

-Filipe-, the site is a block east of Liberty Place and block south of City Hall. It doesn't get any more Center City than that.

If 582 feet becomes the final height figure, this proposal should be approximately 70 feet taller than the Residences at The Ritz-Carlton.

Hopefully an architectural rooftop feature would make this proposal stand out a bit more.

Which means it would show up quite well on the skyline, esp if your heading north from the airport on 95.

Most projects like this tend to be start-stop until there's actually concrete in the ground.
