The Alberta government has laid out the path ahead for an ambitious passenger railway system it says "has incredible potential" for the province.
On Monday, Premier Danielle Smith and Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen unveiled the UCP government's passenger rail master plan, a series of steps it will take to "build the optimal passenger rail system for the province."
In Edmonton, it would be relatively easy. You can make it difficult and choose any other location than Blatchford Park or make it easy and go with Blatchford Park.
The site on the UCP map was actually weirdly a new station just below Telus Plaza near where the downtown gondola station was proposed... Another rumored location is still Government Centre Station approximately where that design proposal that made the few rounds was located... I.e. South of 97th Avenue, West of 109th... Personally I love that location or an underground one on the site of Canterra Centre aka Save On Food's strip mall aka Railtown South. A new LRT station could be built there as part of the long-planned but unbuilt downtown loop with a new station for MacEwan at 105 Avenue at 107 Street... Probably at surface then it's just TWO blocks til the existing Ice District Station that is still woefully named after a University nearby but not at its actual location. Close but no cannabis, cigar as it were...
