Pittsburgh Open House

Just over a month ago, I spent several days in Pittsburgh checking out Pitt's campus and attending an information session for my prospective graduate program. While traipsing about, I was constantly frustrated by my attempts to capture the aura and depth of this amazing city. The two-dimensional image, though capable of translating an idea of how beautiful Pittsburgh is, is simply unable to fully express the "big picture."

If your imagination has ever done somersaults after a random glimpse of the inclines or the Cathedral of Learning or that majestic skyline, click over to expedia and start planning your trip now! Inspiration has been provided below.

Many thanks go out to PittPenn 03, mrherodotus, and Evergrey for the entertaining and informative whirlwind coach tours.

Doing It Right The First Time...

All That Fanciness In Oakland...

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial

Stephen Foster

Schenley Fountain

As a future [singing] librarian, this was a pilgrimage moment:

St. Paul's Cathedral

This is the rather odd building wherein I will find ultimate inspiration through the chanting of the Library of Congress Classification System:

This must be why the Pitt Panther is none too happy?

Heinz Chapel

Dippy

It's Just Not A Pittsburgh Photo Thread Without Some Cathedral Of Learning Action...

And the not often seen lower level:

Even the bathroom waxes philosophic in these parts

A Spiritual Moment...

Pieces Of Downtown...

The Ice (while I was there)...

Snippets...

Guyasuta & Washington share a special moment:

I Left In The Early Morning As The Snows Came In...

I'll be back soon...

In addition, leaving the "h" off the end in the title was purely accidental! I know how to spell Pittsburgh, so please be nice to me

(Could an administrator fix that, perhaps? Thank you Thank you!)

Fun tour. Seems strange to see ice on the rivers. This pic sums up Pittsburgh for me:

Thanks for the pics.

They ice up every few winters when we experience a proglonged severe deep freeze like we did in February. Notice that the ice only covers one river, however... the Allegheny... which flows from Upstate NY... the Monongahela... flowing north from West Virginia was relatively ice free... and the Allegheny's ice ends abruptly where the confluence creates the Ohio River

river traffic on the Allegheny was shut down for a couple weeks... but the Monongahela and Ohio remained navigable for the most part

It was a pleasure to drive you around. Now that I see your eye for photography, I am extra sorry that my car was totally encrusted with road salt. -You probably missed some great ones!

I have to thank you for the last picture of snow covered Oakland. I lived in that section about 15 years ago, and one of my favorite moments in my entire life was watching a snow storm all night long from my third floor bedroom overlooking this very area. -A nice visual reminder!

Hope things go well with SLIS and you are able to move as planned!

Thanks! It turned out pretty well considering it was taken through the windshield of PittPenn's "encrusted with road salt" car
