948 Howe | 62.4m | 22fl | Proposed

I just noticed this today in ShapeYourCity:

https://www.shapeyourcity.ca/948-howe

An application for a 408 unit super slim pod hotel.

As it has it's own thread, it's hybrid CLT construction, with the top two floors as amenity and a rooftop bar. A few more details (without having to read the 300+ page application) on the Changing City blog.

Anyone complains about properties getting “orphaned” needs to be reminded that these lots aren’t loss causes. I remember when the office building to the south was developed and ppl complained how this lot won’t be able to be redeveloped lol

Was that just regular office space/glazing on the side next to 980 Howe?

There's some kind of LED dynamic facade lighting feature as well.

The light feature isn't on the side. "There’s a striking public art feature built into the east-facing glazing, with four bands of dichroic glass designed by PECHET studio, that reflect the light during the day, (like the vent covers on the Shangri La tower), but are also back-lit at night."

Sorry I meant the hotel also has some kind of lighting feature going by the rezoning application.

Can anyone shed light on what the construction cost per room would be for such a thin structure vs a more traditional floorplate?
