“In emails last summer, Assistant City Manager Lori Houston referred to the possibility of building a new Convention Center hotel — in addition to the existing city-built, 1,003-room Grand Hyatt attached to the convention facility — and gauging the feasibility of constructing a land bridge in the area.

A year ago, Houston emailed locally based Pape-Dawson Engineers about providing several services for Project Marvel, including studying the feasibility of a land bridge, as well as moving a San Antonio Water System cooling plant and closing Bowie Street from Commerce to Market streets.

It’s unclear which sites a land bridge would connect — if such a project ever gets off the ground. Would it link the Convention Center to Hemisfair and potentially a Spurs arena? Or maybe the structure would stretch across U.S. 281 from the Alamodome to Hemisfair, which would be one small way of circumventing the asphalt divide between the East Side and downtown.”

While on the note of a second convention center hotel, does anyone have any photos/info on a supposed Sheraton megahotel that was supposed to be built more or less where the Grand Hyatt is in the early 2000s for the Henry B? From the one tiny pic I saw it looked wide-bodied like the Hyatt but had some kind of rainbow lighting facade on the upper part. I recall finding a catalog with a number listed for it but other than that not much evidence of this tower getting past the talking stage.

Let's make it happen. I honestly don't care how much it costs. Our city has been in the shadow of Austin, Dallas, and Houston for decades. No more!! Build something truly special and amazing. Spare no expense!! I want a sports and entertainment experience that every city in the world would be envious of.

Been watching San Antonio for years, hoping momentum for development gets going! I hope this development is eye popping!

That's a really wacky corner of downtown, architecturally and logistically. It makes sense to put Project Marvel there, but I can't say I like it because I'm way more of a DC kind of guy.

Also, every Spurs venue so far has been a half-assed compromise. It's past time for something much better. I expect it will happen. Wembynomics, baby!

Not sure if y'all have seen this but San Antonio Express news has put out multiple Op-Ed articles about residents saying we dont need a new stadium/district or all the negatives its going to cause. They seem to be pushing the anti-stadium agenda and trying to sway the Populus towards saying no to the Spurs. Im genuinely amazed at the people in the city who hate new developments

Make the Alamodome the Spurs’ Home Again?

Is adding a new Spurs arena really necessary, or would it just create a glut of venues?

This debate reminds me of those who have a nostalgic attachment to the ITC building just because they walked through its doors on a field trip 40 years ago. - Someone in this thread may have already said this, but so did my husband.

Maybe someone who understands smart public investment can make money for the city should right for the project.

Do not worry because there are plenty of people who want a new arena for the next generation NBA championship San Antonio Spurs with more NBA championships to be won!! This will come to fruition. The Express News is always reporting the negative news!! Boo!!!

Dallas is about to tear down their pretty dated and lethargic convention center for a brand new one, so I wonder what an expansion of the HBGCC could involve? Maybe they’ll tear down the parking garage on Market Street in favor of a land bridge connecting new expo halls across the intersection of it and Bowie, or push all of the new buildings to the back behind the Tower/ITC. Bury the parking underground by Cesar Chavez and have a brand new wing that encloses the Tower into its own plaza space…
