Some photos of the east reservoirs and the north Broad joint use school. https://imgur.com/a/tw9wZ1P

And a video of the east reservoirs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZKySbBB2eo

I installed some software for automatically stitching images for mapping. Turns out it can also build 3D models if you take enough photos. I'll definitely need a calm day to try gathering photos since you need a lot with downward looking passes in 4 directions, and an orbit of diagonal looking images. Its a lot easier to setup with a drone that supports pre-planned flight plans and longer flight times.

Took a few pictures at the GTH Monday afternoon and added them to the gallery. Something new is being built towards the east. Might be Cam Transport, a sale of 5 acres to them late last year was the last land sale I could find a news story for.

When was the last time we built a 3 level elementary school? Love it.

The St. Pius side of the Pius-Argyle rebuild is 3-storey! I think the 3-storey side for this build is also the Catholic school (St. Raphael).

Some pictures from today. https://imgur.com/a/OsMeavX

and added a few more from the 31st including updates of the SaskPower GTH construction. Weather is not conducive for biking for 45 minutes then stopping for 10 minutes.

Thank you for posting this is incredible. The city is sharing one question and picture number one. What is that large berm on the one side of the photo thank you.

I think they are just dumping excavated dirt from the building foundations. Its possible the pile further east is top soil. When developing an area they start by scraping off the top soil and stock pile it for use later in landscaping. Top soil is useful, but can't be used for fill as the organics break down over time. Whenever a new park gets built they use up a lot of top soil. There is usually a rotary screener near the top soil pile to remove the big chunks / rocks and mix in compost or manure.

The clay beneath the top soil can be used to fill in low spots to level out an area. A considerable amount of leveling was done further south as the Towns and Eastbrook started building out. Just north of the path for Arens Road there is a drop off of at least a foot from the prepared land to the field.

They are now actually required to scrape topsoil and replace it in landscaped areas.

When I rode past Westerra this morning I saw that the entire remaining area east of the Coop had been scrapped of top soil and several berms made at the south end. It's not the Costco land, I think that land is still zoned retail.

I recorded a replacement video of the CN rail spur to the Cargill plant, without the camera cover on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1eHYHTmFhU

I decided to not plan for a return trip and just fly as far as I could then land somewhere safe. It didn't go quite to plan. A light south headwind was just enough for me to come up short, as I planned on crossing Dewdney. The battery reached a level where it initiated a forced landing, making it 3.15 km. I aimed for a spot that would be easy to find, but during landing it veered off into some uncut crop. After I got to the spot it took 25 minutes to find it nestled among some oats. The app does a good job of getting you close to where it landed but it was just really hard to see as it had some overhead cover. If I hadn't exhausted the battery I could have remotely got it to start beeping.

I added a few more pictures to this gallery, the last few are where the drone landed. https://imgur.com/gallery/october-30...3-2024-OsMeavX

Today I drained all 3 batteries to the point of a forced auto landing. I took a bunch of the new reservoirs to try out the WebODM software I installed last week. [looks like it requires far more RAM and CPU than my computer has, going to try a free trial of a cloud based version of the software]

A drone with longer flight time would be ideal for exploring. The max I've been able to get with the DJI Neo is 15 mins, so when flying out you need to take into account whether you'll have a headwind on the return trip. The Mini series is over twice that.

I noticed in Gecko's drone pics that Eastbrook appears to have back alleys on some blocks. Is that correct? Does that mean no front driveways?

I think its going to be a mix. Some houses back onto greenspace so they'll have front parking. The houses on Green Turtle Road up to Buckingham have front driveways and an alley, though the alley was only built this year. Favel Drive and Nicholson Avenue both have front parking on one side of the street and rear garages on the other. I found this lot map the other day that shows the full area https://maps.lotworks.ca/maps/pacesettersask/eastbrook

I'm quite impressed with how the 3D model of the water reservoirs turned out. I uploaded to sketchfab, but it simplified the model a bit. My computer couldn't crunch the photos so I used a cloud based trial of the software WebODM Lightning which flew through the processing.

It can be viewed here, you need to click the gear icon with SD in the lower right and switch to HD otherwise it just looks like a blob (SD looks fine now, must have been still processing, HD looks even better but might be sluggish).
https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/regi...8868d9baf214c9

The controls take some getting used to. Flip with left mouse button, pan with right, zoom with mouse wheel.

Surveyors were out this am at the new 12 unit build on the corner of Toronto and 12th. I am very interested to see how they cram 12 units plus parking on two 25 foot lots. The developer is the founder of Caraway Grill.
