Yes, lots of people having fun. There was even a station for bike rentals. Had I known, I'd have planned for my partner and me to rent bikes and ride the whole route---we don't have our own bikes.

Photos I took last Sunday, 5.5.24.

Though it's existed since 2005, we had never been to Arlington Garden in Pasadena. This was our first time, and won't be our last. We didn't realize how extensive it is, and how mature the plants/trees/flowers are. I guess some of them have been there quite a while; the gardens are on the site of an old huge mansion that existed from about 1902 to the mid-1960s, when it was torn down. The lot sat vacant until about 2005, when the garden was started. It has evolved since then.

Has anyone ever heard of Yoko Ono's Wish Tree art project? Well, one of them is right here in Pasadena's Arlington Garden.

Months ago, I weaned myself off of Claritin. Surprisingly, after being around all of these different kinds of beautiful flowers and plant life, I didn't sneeze once during our time at the garden!

And then, it was lunchtime.

I think it's gorgeous too! Definitely will be visiting it again. Gardens are a great place to relax and just decompress. Even meditate.

At this particular Peruvian restaurant, a kitty-cat robot helps with food delivery.

The person/people in the kitchen load up the robot with the food, and it then goes ahead and knows which table to bring it to.

Then the server comes and serves the food from the robot.

I try to keep the photos in this thread within Los Angeles County, but occasionally, Orange County bleeds in. Like I've mentioned before, I guess this could be a Greater Los Angeles Area thread...

So, tag along with me and my partner to Fullerton and San Juan Capistrano, both in Orange County!

Hehe I thought I would take a lot of photos of San Juan Capistrano, one of the few areas of southern Orange County that I like. It's historic, has the Mission, has the Los Rios neighborhood, which is supposedly the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood in all of California, having buildings that date to 1794... but instead, we ended up at a wine bar and had some food and plenty of wine. So, let's just say we hung out at the wine bar instead of walking around San Juan Capistrano. But it's OK, we've been to San Juan Capistrano many times and have seen the Mission, the Los Rios District, etc., so I didn't think to walk around and take pictures of it. Been there, done that. We just enjoyed the wines at the wine bar.

The last time we went to San Juan Capistrano, which was a number of years ago, we took public transportation from South Pasadena all the way there and back: We took the Metro A Line (back then called the Gold Line) to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, and then caught the Metrolink all the way to San Juan Capistrano. We didn't do that this time; instead, we drove to Fullerton in Orange County and caught the Metrolink train there to San Juan Capistrano.

Fullerton Station. Both Amtrak and Metrolink use this station.

Just a short walk from the train station is this wine bar. We decided to go there for lunch and some wine. Hehe we ended up staying there basically the whole time. So convenient from the train.

We hung out at the wine bar for a bit, and then we just conversed for a bit, talked about a bunch of things... and then we both said "Hmm, do we just wanna catch the train back to Fullerton?" We thought of this because the next train back to Fullerton was at 2:05pm, and the next one after that was at 6:03pm. We didn't wanna wait until 6, so we decided to catch the 2:05 train back to Fullerton. We had gotten to San Juan Capistrano around 12:15pm or so, and at this point it was 1:55pm. So we paid the check and started walking back to the train platform.

The train platform borders the historic Los Rios District.

I snapped a few shots of it; it's really an interesting street, but like I said, we've already explored it a number of times before. I just stayed near the railroad tracks and took some pics of Los Rios Street.

The Fullerton Transportation Center actually has 3 historic train depots on site; aside from the one I took pictures of earlier, there's this one, which now houses an Old Spaghetti Factory.

Very cool tour, I’ve never hung out in San Juan Capistrano but did go to a concert at the Coach House to see Strunz and Farah many years ago back in the late 90’s. I like downtown Fullerton, used to work in the area and hung out a few times on the weekends back in the day. A couple weeks ago I took advantage of the $10 Metrolink weekend pass to go to a graduation party in Rancho Cucamonga. It was a nice way of just relaxing and enjoying the scenery from the SFV to downtown and on out to the I.E., so much infill going on around a lot of the stations.

Anyway I am thinking of doing it again soon but going to Oceanside for the day on a Saturday, but who knows I may just decide to check out San Juan Capistrano instead. Thanks for sharing I really believe a lot of people enjoy your tours.

Thanks! Yeah, San Juan Capistrano makes a nice day trip. Oceanside would be nice too. Years ago, when I was still a college student in the early 1990s, I saw a Chick Corea concert at the Coach House, and I only went because I was taking a History of Jazz class, and we had to see 3 jazz concerts during the semester, and that was my third concert. We had to prove we went by showing tickets or a receipt.

I think you should! Yeah, on Saturdays and Sundays, you can buy a day pass for 10 bucks. During this weekend, they even offered a 10 dollar day pass on Memorial Day. And I think on weekends, kids can ride for free.
