Right? I only knew of him from the more recent news regarding his "slumlord" status, but learning more about his past, it's sad to see how much good he's done and how his legacy was marred later in his life by some of his holdings.

News about what's going on with his properties. Waited a couple of days to post this because I don't want to be dancing on the guy's grave or anything. From an article from Wednesday the 26th:
Joe Jaeger was a major New Orleans real estate investor. Here's what's next for his empire.

"Jaeger still owned the Plaza Tower, which he had bought in 2014 after many earlier failed attempts to revive the 45-story skyscraper. He hoped for a deal to turn it into a Universal Music hotel, but when that deal fell through, he put it up for sale last year.

Wormser said a potential buyer from Florida failed to find the money and dropped out last week, just before the accident that led to Jaeger's death. He said other buyers have shown interest and he hopes a deal can be wrapped up before the end of the summer."

quick trip out last night before I take a break, ive been downtown for essence every year for the last 20 years, because of people damaging things in the casino years round and not having their info, the policy is now that every person who enters the casino must show ID, no matter how old you are or look, which is a swipe, scan both side, check under black light ect. I have no problems with that, its actually great but knowing how many try to enter during large events, I really dont want that headache, for any event. I guess it will be a bit better once they get the convention center entrance open and the new hotel entrance

small update, I really, really hope after they repair, they blacktop over what they are doing to Poydras, the new work is wavy and bumpy and now they are just filling gaps with blacktop till they get to the other sections but the new stuff is not good

the Convention Center/Poydras entrance is still not open but o so close. they were installing the signage yesterday. phone didnt want to open so not a great pic but something

Drove past the Sara Mayo Hospital renovation on lower Jackson. They have made a lot of progress on the renovated portion. New build portion looks to be up to floor 5 or 6 - of the final 8/9. Really a massive development. Should be good for that area.

River District utility and road work is now in full swing. Initial focus seems to be on the extension of Euterpe into the development.

few pics and then Caesars updates

finally made it to the new Treasure Chest casino, didnt take any pics inside. was plenty busy for 4pm. im not a smoker, walking around the place, I could smell a tiny bit, not enough to bother me, passing some people playing and it was very noticable. needs more Video Poker with only 15 machines. overall its very nice and a huge upgrade from the boat, down side you dont have the lake views. I made some money and only left as drink service was non-existent

headed to Caesars

Xavier

some dirt higher than the jail wall, first signs of progress

Caesars

a bit better pic of the Convention Center/Poydras entrance from the last one I posted

inside right next to High limit, where the Signature bar use to be

Caesars Updates, answers plenty questions

first off, its been asked several times and Samir, back from vacation gave his answers

the Roof, the green patina copper roof, will remain. no painting or anything. I believe he did say they would be taking the globe things off of the bell towers

when Nobu restaurant opens, it will be 2:1 points for people who gamble, you are paying twice as much with points, the food hall and emerils petite treats thing will drop down from 2:1 to 1:1 while Emerils restaurant will stay 2:1, The steakhouse is and has always been 1:1

Nobu restaurant is expected to open around august 5th, not as its delayed with construction, apparently there is a que when opening Nobu and Toronto is in position to open before NOLA so it just has to wait

Octavia center bar is supposed to open August 15th or around that time

trying to have the Poydras/CC entrance open next week for Essence

No rooftop pool as originally planned or a spa at the new hotel, simply money ran out, with inflation it was already $100mil over

as I mentioned, the first bookings for the Hotel is Nov. 1st, I expect it open sooner and Samir flat out said as mentioned previously, they want it open in October for Taylor Swifts 3 sold out shows at the SuperDome

No bar in the high limit room but where the Signature bar was, there will be another bar, twice the size

If you are a higher tier gambler, Diamond or 7stars, you got a benefit since they closed the vip lounges, you could get drinks without gambling, simply show your card and ID and you were allotted a certain number of drinks per day, August 1st that benefit ends.

they are working with someone now for facial recognition to deal with the Casino entry as they know there will be huge lines with large events swiping every single person

Octavia center bar will have some video poker also

I was drunk, thats all I can remember lol

Thanks for being our extra eyes and ears on the ground NOLAslimm. I’m very disappointed the roof won’t get re-painted. They could at least touch it up to make it look nicer.

BlueDot, on a scale of 1 to 10, how jealous are you that we get to live in New Orleans every day and all you can do is try to direct people's actions on a small message board?

I really don't get the preoccupation with the roof. it's a copper roof, one of the most expensive materials you can use in buildings today. The green is a natural patina, not a paint or special finish. If we're getting specific here, copper was very much used in the time of Caesar lol.

several people have asked about it, not just here. I just asked the questions people asked for, lol

i assumed it would get painted from what the rendering looked like, a more gray color, hell the place its modeled after, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas has red roofs. it doesnt bother me either way, I just want the construction finished

Nah I get all that and don't mean to say it's annoying people care about how it'll look or are asking about it. I just mean it's a bit much to be "very disappointed the roof won't get re-painted" when it's not painted to begin with and is a high-quality product that will look fine when it's done. FWIW I'm glad they're planning modifications to simplify it, like removing the globe things.

I guess ‘disappointed’ wasn’t the right word. More like hoping the roof would be redone but being let down that’s it’s not going to be. But people won’t notice it anyway as the overall building looks great and vastly updated. No biggie.

Related to Caesars, has anybody ever thought of building sky bridges there? They could build them to connect to Canal Place/Westin on one side, Four Seasons/Riverwalk on another and the Harrah's hotel on the other. Could even connect it to the Hilton Riverside hotel.
