If everything works out, a KDEM report says, the city would see a software export revenue of Rs 40,000 crore, which currently stands at Rs 3,000 crore. That translates to the current IT workforce of 20,000 swelling to 2 lakh, says the report.

Coastal districts too need to actively promote their strengths and success stories, and build own because blue-chip companies choose locations with a strong brand reputation, he says.

Mangaluru’s Transformation into India’s Silicon Beach
Quote:
Visionary Goals
Rohit Bhat, the founding president of TiE Mangaluru and founder of 99Games, is spearheading the ambitious vision to elevate Mangaluru into India’s Silicon Beach. The objectives include increasing job opportunities from 20,000 to 2 lakh, boosting the regional GDP from $20 billion to $100 billion, and nurturing 3,000 startups with the aim of producing at least five unicorns. Bhat sees this transformation as a tangible possibility, with increasing interest from IT firms in investing in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

2 lakh IT jobs target for Mangaluru by 2033
Quote:
The series aimed to create opportunities and envision the region’s future by 2033. It began with a keynote speech by a prominent industry figure, followed by panel discussions featuring leading industry representatives. These discussions focused on strategies to elevate Mangaluru’s status as a global technology hub.
Bhat emphasised the significant impact of IT industries on the coastal district’s economy, stating, “While MRPL, with 2,550 employees, gives out Rs 698 crore of salary with Rs 1,24,686 revenue, the IT industries here generate Rs 3,000 crore revenue and Rs 1,800 crore going as salary. The IT industries here in the coastal district make a bigger impact on the economy. Therefore, these industries need to be supported. Our aim is to contribute at least 10% of Karnataka’s GDP in another ten years.”
TiE Mangaluru, which promotes IT growth in coastal Karnataka, focuses on three factors: future, nature, and culture. “When we are planning to expand the IT ecosystem in the future, we also focus on nature and culture. Future refers to satellite offices, large IT company offices, and startups. Nature refers to more eco-buildings, reducing carbon footprint, and preserving the local culture, which has a rich heritage,” said Bhat, adding that Mangaluru is considered one of the 15-minute cities.

MRPL plans to establish first green hydrogen unit in coastal region
Quote:
MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited) is set to produce 500 tonnes of Green Hydrogen annually by 2026, as Mangaluru has been identified as a green hydrogen cluster. ...
|
Quote:
Interest in green hydrogen was particularly evident at the 'Invest Karnataka 2022' investors' conference in Bengaluru, where nine proposals worth Rs 2.86 lakh crore were accepted. Many investors favoured Mangaluru due to its port facilities, making it ideal for exports. MRPL's initiative marks a significant step toward realising this potential.
|
As all refineries & steel plants asked to produce green hydrogen for its internal use this may not be considered as a step towards Green Hydrogen cluster. The significant step actually comes when ONGC starts construction of its Green Hydrogen unit in Mangaluru.
