Yeah, its not exactly a looker. Thankfully it is not overly visible, even though it is half a block off Michigan Ave. It gets lost in the forest of taller and much better looking buildings.

It replaces a long empty lot, and as a hotel it will help activate Ontario St, which is a bit sleepy east of Michigan aside from the occasional blaring ambulance leaving NorthWestern

Umm, it's the alley side of a building and it looks absolutely fine. Better than fine. Sheesh. Gimme a break.

Yeah I agree, it's totally fine for what it is, a brand new hotel flag in Chicago for a company that has never had a presence here before. People need to chill.

Gensler. So, looks expectedly insipid to me. I miss the days when Brininstool & Lynch had a monopoly on S Michigan and Wabash developments. They added that extra edge of sophistication and finesse that this looks to be sorely lacking.

Interesting article highlighting how Sterling Bay is continuing to attempt to offload properties from their West Loop portfolio.

https://www.chicagobusiness.com/comm...icle1-headline

This really makes me think LY is dead for now...... If SB is offloading this much, I find it hard to believe they are going to get anything solid off the ground, aside from the two apartment buildings they are trying to push for approval for.

I'm kinda happy Sterling Bay is selling sites after securing zoning. Now another developer who's better at secure financing is able to start construction much sooner

TBF, the financing situation is pretty rough for everyone right now. "Survive 'till '25" is the mantra in CRE right now...

I really like it. Multiple stories of this would become oppressive very quickly, but since the parking is only one level it works nicely to visually separate the tower and retail components.
