The CMPD along with local and state officials have done an amazing job when compared to other cities with comparable size and demographics. I feel Charlotte is a rare case where both parties work toward the common good of the people and the city as a whole.

It’s sort of irrelevant to mention cities of similar size.

San Francisco is similar in population to Charlotte at 46 Sq Miles of a population 18,000 people per sq. Mile vs Charlotte at a density of 2,834 people per Sq. mile within 308 Sq. Miles.

It’s apples and oranges when one area has pristine suburbs and the other is urban only. It sort of skews the actual crime statistics faced within the core of the city where most of the crime occurs. I assume the levels of crime would sky rocket if you shrink the city limits to say 150 sq miles, on paper.

It’s best to be sober about reality. Once it becomes apparent crime is starting to have negative consequences, it’s probably at least a couple years to reverse (the whole studies, studies of studies, new task force, community forums, resources allocates, new programs, etc.) Once something negative becomes apparent, it’s like turning the titanic. Though maybe the other poster is blowing it out of proportion, but in general. Once anything is noticeably negative…it means politicians had years of failing their constituents.)

Queensbridge

Queensbridge - Looking south from the Legacy Union parking deck. I counted approximately 19 floors completed of 40 total.

Nice update. The bldg almost completely obscures the ol' Pepto Bismol condo building from this view now.

Carolina Theater 8/24/2024

Its been a few months since a new update on the start date for the Intercontinental Hotel above the theater. Last i heard, construction was to begin this summer. Hopefully it's not delayed again.

Construction crews are getting ready to go vertical on a new $137.3 million library in uptown Charlotte.
Demolition of the former library building began last August, and crews are wrapping up site prep work now. Tommy Scott, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library communications specialist, said foundation work and vertical construction will begin as soon as that's completed. The project is on schedule and slated to deliver in summer 2026.

The Main Library project was to be part of a larger redevelopment of 6.8 acres, bound by North Tryon, Seventh, College and Sixth streets. Washington, D.C.-based Metropolitan Partnership was the master developer until that project was scrapped last August. The Seventh and Tryon mixed-use development, which would have completely remade the North Tryon corridor, called for a 400,000-square-foot office tower, market-rate apartments, 31,000 square feet of retail and other features.

Thank you for the updates. Is that construction site just below in the photo the construction of the new Uptown library?

And if you get a chance to upload any other photos of uptown area I'd love to see what else is under construction. I lived in Charlotte for a long time, and haven't been back in a while. I miss it. Would love to see what they've been building if you ever get a little down time and want to share more photos.

Charlotte City Council backs transit tax deal, Red Line purchase, but questions remain

Quote:
Charlotte leaders nearly unanimously backed long-awaited measures to overhaul the region’s public transit system Tuesday. But many City Council members still have questions about the approach and its feasibility.

The Charlotte City Council voted 10-1 to support draft legislation on a sales tax referendum to pay for transportation needs and spend $91 million to purchase railroad tracks from Norfolk Southern for the Red Line commuter rail project. Council member Tariq Bokhari was the lone vote against. TOP VIDEOS The vast majority of almost 20 residents who spoke during a public comment period at the meeting also backed both measures.

“This is an historical moment,” Mayor Pro Tem Danté Anderson said. Still, multiple council members who voted for the draft bill and the Red Line purchase said it was a “difficult” decision. They cited concerns about a lack of transparency during negotiations and the new governance model for public transit in the legislation, and frustration in east Mecklenburg about the future of the Silver Line rail project.

“This is a tough vote,” Council member Renee Johnson said. “... We have to acknowledge people are hurting.” Bokhari, one of two Republicans on the council, questioned whether the GOP-dominated state Legislature will sign off on the draft legislation, which is crucial to getting a 1-cent sales tax increase on the ballot to pay for transportation projects. “We are setting ourselves up for failure by not being precise,” he said.
