It seems like any place that has a Ripley's, or a Madame Tussauds, is in contention.
On that premise, I was going to suggest Hot Springs, AR, which also has a Tussauds (although interestingly, not a "Madame Tussauds", but rather, a "Josephine Tussaud", her great-great-granddaughter). Hot Springs also has a very heavy tourist-based economy (they've got the Duck Tours too). But there is enough local history, authentic architecture, and natural beauty that I think it overrides the trash-factor. It's actually a really cool little city. If you've never been, I'd recommend it.
