Thankfully the code updates last year will open up the options for smaller footprint buildings, and I hope as a city we continue to relax the myriad restrictions on housing & land use which lead to big SFH, big MFH full of efficiency/1br/2br units, and almost nothing else.
What I wouldn't give for Austin to have housing dense enough that we don't get ourselves into a structural budget shortfall due to unsustainable suburban development....
