YOW is also the main hub in Eastern Canada for flights to the Arctic. For example, if you want to get from Toronto to Iqaluit, you actually have to connect in Ottawa.

It looks like Air Canada is in the middle of updating their domestic summer scheds, lots of new frequencies loaded but many will be removed (ie. there are two 10:30am YVR-YYZ departures right now with different flight #s). Interesting note, they are renumbering many of their longstanding flight #s, in a more "orderly" way. For instance, YVR-YUL used to be all over the map (AC198, AC159, AC112, AC182 etc...) Now YVR-YUL is AC300, 302, 304, 306, 308, and 310. YVR-YOW AC340, 342, 344 (used to be 166, 188, 138). I'm not going to list them all LOL but for someone with mild OCD like me I like this change :)

Bad news is that some routes already overflow its allocation... namely YVR-YYZ and YUL-YYZ :D

I know, argh... in a perfect world every flight # would be in sequence ;)

Canadian North Just announced a reduction in frequency to YFB.

NewLeaf will fly from Hamilton to Orlando (MLB) starting January 15th.

Hamilton's newest low-cost air carrier is offering new flights to Florida this winter.

Newleaf and Flair Airlines will fly from Hamilton to Orlando and Melbourne, Fla. The flights will run from Jan. 15 to the end of April, but the company may extend the schedule.

Flights from Hamilton to Florida were always a goal, said Jim Young, NewLeaf president and CEO. And the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is happy too.

"Florida is a highly demanded destination for our passengers," said Vijay Bathija, president and CEO of the airport, in a media release Wednesday.

The more flights NewLeaf adds, the better for airport officials anxious to boost passenger flight numbers out of Hamilton.

Passenger numbers have fallen short of expectations over the years, drawing frustration from city councillors. But this August, months after NewLeaf announced its launch, those numbers started to turn around.

In 2015, the airport saw 312,839 passenger flights, down from 332,378 in 2014 and 341,470 in 2013. In August, Bathija told council earlier this year, they shot ahead of last year's numbers.

It is interesting to see how New Leaf has started offering services from YYC, one of the airports they almost made a point of saying they would avoid to help offer the cheapest fares to passengers.

They must have gotten a good enough deal at Phoenix-Mesa (a secondary airport) to offset the cost of operating out of Calgary.

They cannot ignore that the largest Canadian markets are YYZ, YVR, YUL and YYC. Was only a matter of time... our secondary cities are not the size of American ones... to paint a comparison.

Not necessarily. YUL might get the flight first. For one, TP are on record as saying YUL first, then YYZ, and also, there would probably be less risk in starting YUL, what with only TS flying the route non stop on a seasonal basis. Although TS does plan to go year round on the route as of summer 2017.

As for YYZ-LIS, 3 carriers already operate the route non stop, 2 of them year round. Tap would be the 4th carrier on the route.

That being said, TAP is obviously interested in starting both YYZ and YUL, so they clearly see potential in both cities. One thing TAP can offer that the other carriers can't, is connections to places like North Africa and the rest of Europe. YUL-North Africa in particular, is huge, and TAP can offer good connections to CMN, ALG, DKR, RAK, TNG, etc..

Surprised no one has posted this yet! Westjet is really not being discrete about driving New Leaf into the ground, their route announcements are coming just days after New Leaf's announcements LOL. They must really be hoping this competition will kill New Leaf quickly...

But why would they hire a district sales manager in Toronto whose only language requirement is Portuguese (aside from the obvious English) if he's to serve the YUL market?

If you read the job description posted, under main objective, it says....

"Achieve established revenue objectives for assigned target Agencies and Corporate customers in Canada." At the bottom of the page, it does say "travel as required".

It wouldn't be too far fetched to think that they might want one district sales manager in charge of both YYZ/YUL.

If they plan on opening YUL and YYZ in close succession, hiring a district sales manager only in Toronto makes sense.
