I've not attempted to match each aircraft to their destinations, or frequencies, as there are too many variables. I've included Transaero as they were flying in until very recently.

There were days Cubana used to send their Il-96s to Pearson... Soviet planes have a certain sexiness about them.

Now it's mostly the TU-234, but that's a narrowbody.. Point is if we're including Aeromexico we should include Cubana!

YVR very well may be the first yes. Bit of a race with SYD and MEL down under perhaps as they both have a growing list of direct flights to the secondary Chinese cities. Seems like more being announced all the time.

SYD should be the first to reach 10, although not the same 10. All of these are direct, non-stop flights too. However, two of the applied routes to SYD already very near the planned launch date but doesn't seems to be starting anytime soon...

China-SYD
Current:
Beijing - Air China, China Eastern
Chongqing - Sichuan
Guangzhou - China Southern
Nanjing - China Eastern
Shanghai - Air China, China Eastern, Qantas

Announced:
Fuzhou - Xiamen (Nov 29, 15)
Xi'an - Hainan (Dec 23, 15)
Xiamen - Xiamen (Dec 5, 15)

Applied:
Changsha - Hainan (Nov 15)
Shenzhen - China Southern (Dec 15)

Total: 10 (8)

China-MEL
Current:
Beijing - Air China
Chengdu - Sichuan
Guangzhou - China Southern
Shanghai - Air China, China Eastern, Shanghai

Applied:
Qingdao - Beijing Capital (Jul 16)
Xiamen - Xiamen (Jun 16)

Total: 6 (4)

China-YVR
Current:
Beijing - Air Canada, Air China
Chengdu* - Sichuan
Kunming* - China Eastern
Guangzhou - China Southern
Shanghai - Air Canada, China Eastern
Shenyang - Sichuan

Applied:
Chongqing* - Tianjin (Jun 16)
Tianjin - Hainan (Jun 16), Tianjin (Jun 16)
Xiamen - Xiamen (Jul 16)

Total: 9 (6), * = one-stop

Fair point. I compiled the list from memory of what I recall working in recent months. It doesn't surprise me that some airlines escaped my recollection. There's probably another couple that could be added.

On a side note, it was a year ago yesterday I watched in awe as the Antonov A224 departed. That plane is huge!

Thanks for the feedback re: Central Canada - North. Are these routes growing, maintaining or shrinking.....like I was saying they are definitely shrinking out West.

For Montreal it is stable - no recent change to my knowledge.

The distant plane is the 124. You get an idea of the size based on everyone standing around it. there were 2 on the runway that day but I only had time for the one shot.

AC will start operating daily flights from YUL to Houston, Philadelphia and Denver for summer 2016.

Johnny Aussie Nov 19, 2015 6:22 AM

AC is upgauging YVR-PVG from a 788 --> 77W
AC rouge is adding a 6th weekly YVR-KIX as well.

UPDATE ALERT!

Beijing Capital Airlines has just applied for Hangzhou-Qingdao-Vancouver.

This is getting out of control.

Shenzhen is also "rumoured" but I cannot substantiate anything further on that yet. So I will leave that in the unsubstantiated rumour category for now.

No foreign action really - just AC opening routes left right and centre and augmenting capacity (hence the ~7% growth).

Denscity Nov 19, 2015 4:42 PM

Someone from Toronto should keep us up to date with all the YYZ additions ironically it's the only big city without regular updates.

I work there and I can't keep track of all the variations. I compiled a list of the heavies that fly in, but there's too many routes and varying aircraft to keep track of what flies where every day and how often. That is unless someone has many, many hours to spare hunting through airline published schedules. And even then, keeping it succinct won't be easy.
I will keep a watch for any new airlines/different planes that come in and post on here what I see.

Cool good effort someone should. It is Canada's busiest it should be given more attention than it gets on here.
