It seems like condo towers are trending that way. Packing in more floors with more height because they're upping the ceiling heights. 6 X Guadalupe, a new office/condo tower here was first listed as 848 feet with 65 floors in the elevations, but there's an FAA permit saying 883 feet. We were debating why that might be, of course. Someone with inside knowledge on the subject said they're planning on adding some height to the residential floors with higher ceiling heights. It's actually a good thing since even a building with a modest number of floors could end up being quite tall. We have 7 towers in the 40+ story range - all condos, either built or under construction. It would be nice if some of them starting trending taller.

So it's possible that there is something really interesting architecturally and structurally going on with this tower. Or...it's really more floors than 40 and the plates are much smaller than what was previously massed. While more likely, it's interesting to ponder what a 40 floor 1,120ft tower might look like. Isn't there a building in Riyadh that has only 40 floors or so, but is around 1,000ft? |
^They have a few buildings with wacky floor counts that are tall. The Kingdom Centre is 992 feet with 41 floors. It's the tallest building in the world with less than 50 floors. They have a building code that prohibits buildings from having inhabited spaces above a certain height.
http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=38 There very well may be some kind of interesting top on this one, but condos are trending toward having higher ceiling heights now. |

What I mean by change is, so far, we have only seen the breakdown of the hotel portion of the building (covering 40 floors), and only about 600,000 sf of development, for a tower that should be close to or above 1 msf. There is also said to be 108 units, for which we haven't seen the filing for.. Breaking down the floors helps me visualize what's going on.... http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/JB...allbin=1024730 SC1................Gym, Healthclub CEL................Retail, Gift Shop 01..................Hotel Lobby, Lounge, Retail, Observation Deck Entrance 02..................Retail 03..................Amenities, Business Center, Terraces 04..................Amenities, Gym, Spa 05..................Mechanical 06..................54 Hotel Units 07..................54 Hotel Units 08..................54 Hotel Units 09..................54 Hotel Units 10..................54 Hotel Units 11..................54 Hotel Units 12..................54 Hotel Units 13..................54 Hotel Units 14..................54 Hotel Units 15..................54 Hotel Units 16..................54 Hotel Units 17..................54 Hotel Units 18..................54 Hotel Units 19..................54 Hotel Units 20..................54 Hotel Units 21..................54 Hotel Units 22..................Mechanical 23..................54 Hotel Units 24..................54 Hotel Units 25..................54 Hotel Units 26..................54 Hotel Units 27..................54 Hotel Units 28..................54 Hotel Units 29..................54 Hotel Units 30..................54 Hotel Units 31..................54 Hotel Units 32..................Mechanical 33..................Roof Bar, Mechanical 34..................(Inside) Pool Bar, (Outside) Pool, 4 Seating Areas 35..................Mechanical 36..................Mechanical 37..................Dining 38..................Observation Deck 39..................Observation Deck 40..................Observation Deck |

With Barnett now in control, it appears those last remaining buildings will come down, and there will be no wraparound.

This better be an epic supertall. This would be the perfect site for a new landmark tower.

1,120ft.

This clearly isn’t 1,120’ tall and presumably, is an old, outdated design.

The facade is similar to an old version of another Extell development. https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...a.IMG_4933.PNG |

Did Extell end up acquiring the corner building on 47th and 5th? I don’t recall. |
This will continue to be updated until we get the full building. So far, they have updated the total floors from 40 to 51, and we can now see the 1,350 hotel rooms....

I hope that Extell builds at least this tall at the 5th Ave and 46th St site.
