I'm not sure how I feel about the tallest with that weird addition on top. But, having never seen Augusta, I am quite impressed. Nice shots! Thanks!

Don't they have a golf course there, or something like that? Anyways... this is the first in depth photo coverage I can recall seeing on SSP for Augusta. Looks charming! Kinda college town-esque. Thanks!

Augusta doesn't get much coverage on SSP. I saw photo coverage of Augusta for the first time on SSP last month when LSyd posted some photos. I don't know whether or not it's ok or even cool to post his link here so I won't.

Whoa! That addition to the skyscraper is not cool. Not cool at all.

The rest of the city looks very handsome.

Looks reasonably pleasant other than the awful addition on top of that beautiful old highrise.

Yes... I believe in the nomenclature of our times that would be referred to as an EPIC FAIL.

Well, unfortunately outside of downtown the city isn't much to look at. Most of the photos taken are all along Broad Street, with a few from the river a couple of blocks over.

Here's a little info on that addition: For many years the tallest building in Augusta, it was bought in 1973 by among others State Senator R. Eugene Holly. Mr. Holly commissioned the penthouse addition, built by I. M. Pei between 1974 and 1975. It features Italian marble and blue plate glass, and cost $500,000. Source

Also: State Sen. R. Eugene Holley adds a massive cross to the top of the Lamar Building's new penthouse, his "Christmas present" to Jesus. The cross is 36 feet tall, 17 feet wide and weighs 4,700 pounds. The penthouse costs more than $2 million; Augustans call it "Holley's Folly" and the "giant toaster." B. Kelley New, the Lamar Building's interior designer and a former employee of Mr. Holley, said the misunderstood penthouse was supposed to resemble a pyramid to go along with the Egyptian influences in the building's architecture. Source

L41A, you can post a link to LSyd's photos if you want, I don't mind.

great pics of my soon to be home. i can't wait to move. and there seems to be some stuff outside of downtown...to the west is a mill village hood, to the south around the golf course is a nice old suburb hood (20s-30s), just to the east of downtown is old town...the old school hood.

Quaint and pleasant. Reminds me of a few towns in Vermont I've been to.

The Masters tournament happens on Augusta National Golf Club.

Augusta doesn't seem to be anything to be ashamed of - I've heard it described as a shithole more than anything else, but these photos seem to show something otherwise.

Augusta looks better than I thought it would. What the heck is going on with that skyscraper, though? I.M. Pei did a terrible job with that if it's his work.

One of the most famous and top golf courses in the world (Augusta National Golf Club, home of The Masters). The Masters is probably the biggest golf tournament (highest TV ratings every year) but you can also argue for the U.S. Open and British Open. The Masters is unique in that it's the only Major to be held at the same course every year.

Surprised with the photos, Augusta seems like a nice town.

Augusta looks nice, however there is a big feeling of a ghost town when I was there. Barely people walking on the streets.
